O.K. Today is my third week of having any symptoms.
Today my hands feel like they are burning and that someone is sticking needles in them. This happens especially when I wash them with cold water or in front of the air conditioning in my car.
Is this normal???
It is kind of scary.
I went and saw my MD today and he is referring me to an Infectious Disease Doctor. The thing he doesn't know is that I already have an appt. with and LLMD in September.
Also, is this considered stage 3 of Lyme, neurolyme or what?
Any help is greatly greatly appreciated.

Hello Discdogger:
I know this symptom all TOO well. I feel exactly what you describe, however I do NOT feel it all of the time.
It started almost 2 years ago and I deal with this about 2-3 hours per day and sometimes 4-5 hours per night, ONLY while in the lying position, not kidding! MY LLMD thinks in my case it is Lyme AND a mechanical cause. I've only been on ABX for 2 months now.
Unlike yours, I get total and instant relief from the burning hands by placing them in cool water or air. Example, while driving my vehicle, I direct my AC vents to my hands and they feel 'normal', however if I touch warm or rough surfaces, the stinging/burning really sets off.
I cannot answer wether or not this is Stage 3 or whatever people call this. However, this is clearly neurological involvement since this is a 'nerve' symptom, perhaps some form of neuropathy. The question is, what branch of the nervous system is producing the sx? Central or Peripheral?
I also have the burning to a much, much worse degree in the soles of my feet. Again, cool water relieves them too, but only very temporarily.
Discdogger, these are apparently fairly common sx's of Lyme and Bartonella - I hear they can get better, but take time, proper tx, supplements etc.
When were you tested? How long do you think you've been infected? Did you have a Bulls-Eye Rash? What state is your LLMD in?
Hoping others can give help and I wish you all my best, MBB3 Posted by discdogger (Member # 16798) on :
There is controversy over the lesion I found. It is not a true bull's eye rash, but it does have a lighter center.
I have no idea how long I have had Lyme. My MD finally thinks I have Lyme after 4 visits with him. He did 2 titers and they both came back negative.
Who knows it could be something else, but every symptom that I am having points to Lyme.
The LLMD that I am seeing is in Alabama. I hope he will know what to do.
I just started my last semester of graduate school and this has to happen. Thank goodness I am a microbiology major and my professors know what this is and they are very understanding.
Thanks for your help

Hi there Discdogger,
I live in Alabama also.
Your post caught my eye because I had burning and stinging in the hands also.
I think this might have been one of my first posts back in 2004 about the same issue.
I'd skip the ID completely. It'll be a waste of time and money.
I've heard of the doctor that you're seeing in September.
I'm not a patient there but have heard good things.
Believe it or not, once I was put on antibiotics the burning and stinging in the hands went away.
So, hang in there!
