I was infected with Lyme Disease in 1987, I was not diagnosed and treated until the end of 1989. Since then I have had four recurrences, each lasting from a year to 21/2 years and each being two to four years apart. I would like to ask people with similar recurring Lyme if their initial symptoms started with neurological symptoms and if so what kind. Mine has always started with joint and upper resperatory symptoms. Please help me know if I could be starting another relaps (I have a number of Neurological symptoms that are the same as I had with other recurrences but not until latter in the cycle).

Hey there Florida...
Hope you have your umbrella up! Ouch on the tropical storm.
Hope you are ok!
BTW- Thought you'd like to know...
I am not answering your questions tonight.
I just answered my 100th for the day.. and I am all answered out.
Plus... any answers provided after the first 100, costs you double. Triple charges apply it if it after 2 AM.
Now.. you may not know a thing more than you did when you wrote this.. but at least you are saving money!
Actually, dear, I am tired. Exhausted really. It just hit like a big wave. But I saw your post and am hoping someone jumps in to help.. especially if I respond to bring it to the top for the early birds.
Sorry about that. I'll try later.. just need to hit the pillow now.
Later gator. Be safe down thar when the winds blow!

Hi, I get frequent relapses, but my intervals are much shorter than yours. A few months and I fall sick again without re-infection.
Mine usually re-starts with an EM rash appearing somewhere, then other symptoms come. I usually don't leave it take my body, so I attack it as soon as I see an EM rash, and can get the infection into control again rather fast.
The last relapse though happened different, through some GI issues (tummy pain and some intolerances to food), no EM rash. No neuro symptom so far, except when I herxed.
I guess there's no standard way of relapsing. Each person is different. Fatigue comes back fast, then cramps, then the hell of killing-herx cycles come back again.
I got some arthritic symptoms back, muscular pains, numbness in my arms this time. I never got muscular symptoms before. So I guess, there's no pattern for a relapse, at least, not for me.
Best way to know is to start a lyme treatment and see if you react (or do the igenex or whatever tests you can find). I only do energetic tests though.

Sounds like you've never been adequately treated. How many years at a time were you on abx??
I would think everyone who relapses, relapses differently from the next person. Some have more neuro symptoms than others. Some have more body pain than others.
So whatever your main symptoms were is what would likely come back first. Hope that makes sense!!!

My first symptom was encephalitis, and I've been getting steadily
worse since I got this thing despite treatment (been medicating
for 7.5 months now.)

I am a relapser-remitter with about the same cycle as you have experienced.
However, last August 2007 when I relapsed, I never remitted. Serious treatment now.
Do you have a LLMD? Might want to get to one soon and get evaluated. good luck.

OOps to answer your question about Neuro symptoms....
Yes, my relapses were generally neuro....headaches, head pressure, dizziness, derealization, anxiety, and tingling and bug bite feelings.
