Have a family member who blood work came back with a high level of C reactive protein. Can this be elevated in lyme, coinfections or other disorders? Thanks.

my heart crp is normal;
other crp is elevated; yes lyme can affect it; do NOT know about co-infecions

I believe I read on Wikipedia that C reactive protein can go up in response to infection; so, it would make sense that it could be any infection such as bartonella or babesia, or lyme. I don't know if it would be able to raise from a short infection, like the flu, however. So it COULD be a sign of a serious infection.
However, I believe people with other conditions like autoimmune can have high C reactive proteins, so I don't think you can conclude much from only having this one test high (does he/she have lyme symptoms too?). Thought some here think autoimmune is always related to an infection, I don't know if that is always the case, I believe sometimes people's bodies can just spazz for other reasons too, and in my non-educated opinion, an abnormal immune system isn't always because of an infection.
You would definitely have to look at symptoms, history, etc as well before you determined Lyme and co, but yes, you may see these blood results in that situation.

My C reactive protein was the first test to show positive when I had acute lyme.
It could be elevated due to a infection, but it could also indicate a heart problem as well.

My CRP is elevated and my HS-CRP is VERY elevated at 33.7 the end range is 3... yes it is VERY elevated which is quite scary... BUT I have read that if you have an inflammatory condition such as Autoimmune or Chronic infection it is not wise to get the HS-CRP because levels tend to be higher in chronic inflammation... CRP is a better Choice...
Of course I dont know if my high CRP is due to lyme or an autoimmune conditon...

Mine was elevated slightly, too. My LLMD thought it had to do with my heart, because my dad had a heart attack a few years younger than what I am now.
However, the neurologist he referred me to, for another reason, said that it was an indicator of inflammation in the body.
He was the same neuro that looked at the lesions on my brain and said it appeared I had small strokes, but he would bet I had an infection.
Very interesting, how days later, I was positive for the hemobartonellosis/mycoplsma thingy. and band 41.
