Anyone have issues swallowing? Since this all started off and on I have had issues where I had trouble swallowing as if I couldn't coordinate my throat muscles. Also, I have things periodically get stuck in my throat as if there is a flap or something there catching the food and it will sit there for a while before it goes down, especially with pills or capsules. Yes, it is a common symptom of lyme and probably bart. Search here for other discussions about throat problems.

Mine improved a lot on doxy. I still have throat swelling and difficulty with my throat but nothing like it was before I started treatment.

Yes. Me too. And it is painful when something gets stuck in your throat. This never happened to me before lyme.

same here; had to drink barium for them to follow it in x-rays, etc.

i have a "MOTILITY" PROBLEM ... meaning i have a hard time getting things going! i knew that before i went in there ... duh!

it's gotten easier but the amount of pills i take make it worse when it's huge amounts of pills. [Frown]

So, I am not alone. But, it feels like it gets stuck in the same spot...mostly on my right. If I lean my head to the left when swallowing pills, it seems fine, weird!

Are you taking NSAIDs? I have gotten esophogitis from taking Motrin for consecutive days were food will get stuck going down. It also causes me to choke more drinking liquids because of the irritation in the throat. Or perhaps your abx are getting stuck? This happens constantly with my Ceftin bc it is a big pill and uncoated. Try Pepcid or Prilosec or one of the other OTC acid reducers.

It's been mucus from sinus drainage caused by Babs/seasonal allergies that does that to me sometimes.

try taking Mucinex(guaifenisin) and see if it doesn't improve.

Yes I too have difficulty swallowing, food getting stuck, the throat closing up slightly & I also get spontaneous choking for no reason - don't even have to be eating.

Is this a sign of a specific condition or just Lyme?

i'm in this boat too. wound up in the er one night with pork lodged in my esophagus. Had to have an endoscopy to remove it.

It gets worse with a sypmptom flare. Its scary as hell and painful.

A few tips that have worked for me: hot water to dissolve whatever is in there or a shot of coke (it can dissolve car paint so its likely to to a number on what ever is stuck there).

I also slowly move my chin up down and side to side to try and dislodge it.

I also had all the motility test, barium swallows, blah blah blah. Dr told me in a letter "chew your food better!!" oh really?!! How do you chew water, b/c that has gotten stuck too!

good luck
