as i posted before, i am flat on my back with a damaged muscle in my back. i have an appt on tuesday with my llmd.
i can barely sit up or even lay down so driving for over an hour is totally out of the question. the slightest movement causes intense spasming and pain so i ain't going anywhere.
as i think i have a yeast issue i was really wanting to ask him for difulcan, you know the white coated tongue, stringy stuff, red fingers, etc.
does your doc do phone consults and do you think it would be ok for me to call and when i cancel, cause i'm going to have to, ask if they would do a prescrip for me even tho i can't come in?
do you think they would call it in long distance since i live over 40 miles away and my walmart is so close to me?
would docs give you a prescription with a phone consult?
anybody ever do this? there is just no way i can make it...

My LLMD doctor does phone consults, but usually you have to schedule them in advance. He will prescribe over the phone if I have been to see him within 4 months of the call. My in town ob/gyn will prescribe over the phone if I just tell him what I need. Have not been denied anything, yet.

oops, sorry i forgot, this is not a vaginal yeast but rather systemic i think....and my regular ob//gyn doesn't believe in systemic neither does my primary care, so my llmd is my only shot for getting diflucan..

Try calling on Tuesday and explaining that you simply are not able to make the drive. Suggest instead that you do a "phone appointment". You would still need to pay whatever fee your LLMD charges (since it would still be an "appointment"). I think most appointments (after the initial one which includes a physical exam) can be handled over the phone. Explain the situation and see if he/she is agreeable.

This is a tough call since I think it really is dependant on your individual doctor.
My first Lyme doctor would allow me to call him with things going wrong and he would adjust meds even before an actual appointment, but he was the type that wanted to see you every 6 weeks.
Then I was referred to a doctor that is a 5 hour drive from here, depending on traffic. Due to the distance, he has it set up that when you schedule your appointment, he does a phone consult but it is put in his appointment book for that time slot and there is a fee. Not as much as seeing him, but considering the long drive, it is definitely worth it.
I do know he won't do them ALL as phone consults but I do know many that will. I don't know how it would go with a change this close to your appointment time.
I think what you are going to have to do is call the office on Monday and tell them that you just don't think you are well enough to drive and what do THEY suggest.
They must have other patients that have been in your same situation, especially since some of us are herxing so badly and some of us (myself included) aren't even driving ourselves in the conditions we are in, so need to depend on others. But if you are expected to drive yourself, I would definitely call the office and ask what THEY recommend.
That puts the ball back in their court. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Randibear, I'm sorry to hear you're down for the count with your back. Have you tried ice packs for the back symptoms?
Regarding the Diflucan order over the phone, you can use the method my daughter preferred: ask and she can always say "no."
I'm concerned about the sudden onset and severity of the back symptoms which are impacting your function--read your other post, too. That probably can't be treated over the phone so I'm hoping you can get in somewhere to be diagnosed soon.

This past winter there was a bad snow storm the day I had my llmd apt. I actually attempted to drive there thinking if I canceled I would not
get in for two months. I got on the highway and I sat in traffic for an hour got off the highway and went home.
When I called the office the receptionist said the Dr. would call me during my scheduled visit.
They totally understood the situation and how dangerous the roads were that day.

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly right now. Staying home seems wise, but I hope you can see someone about your back problems soon so you can get some relief.
Since it's customary to give as much notice as possible, and you already know you won't be able to make the trip, I would suggest calling first thing Monday morning. Explain that this came on suddenly, and ask for a phone appointment for the same time slot your in-person appointment was scheduled, or maybe for a shorter time.
If they won't do a phone consult this time, maybe you could get a phone consult or an in-person appointment in a week or whenever you think you might be able to make it.
I've only had one really brief phone consult with my new LLND so far, but I think the ND would give me a prescription after a phone consult. I've been to the office twice in person.
You should be able to get a prescription filled at any pharmacy you like. Just have the address and phone & fax numbers of the pharmacy handy when you talk to the doctor. I think most doctors prefer to fax prescriptions to pharmacies these days because it is safer. It would be so easy for anybody to call the pharmacy and say they are Dr. Xyz and ask for a prescription.

RB I would take 2 capsules of goldenseal twice a day for candida.
It is not as hard on your liver as Diflucan and it works even better for me then two weeks of Diflucan ever did. If you are allergic to ragweed then skip the goldenseal.

Yes, as long as I have a personal appointment every couple of months. He will also do prescriptions over the phone.
However, this year I qualified for state Medicaid, which pays for everything, and I just received a bill in the mail for my phone consult. The receptionist at his office told me it may have been a mistake, but it hasn't been cleared up yet.
So I guess my warning is that even if your doctor will do a phone consult, if money is an issue for you, check first to see if the phone appt. is covered.
