Did Oprah finally have a show on Lyme disease?

I heard there was only one speaker on the show, which makes me suspicious as to who it would be.

Please let me know if there was a show. And how I can get a tape of it if she did finally have a show.

mjo,

I have been meaning to post something about Oprah but have put it off. Our accountant at work said that she was watching Oprah and that some Dr. Oz she had on the show stated "lyme disease is presently the most serious medical problem in the country", or something like that.

The date of the show was Tuesday, August 19, 2008. I know because our office was closed here in Florida due to Tropical Storm Fay and this is why she was able to see the show.

I do not believe that the show was on lyme disease, but our accountant is positive that the statement above was made by that doctor.

Dr. Oz said a very brief statement (paraphrasing)- "Do you know which insect I am most afraid of being bitten by?"...and Oprah was like "No, what?" And he said, "The tick. Not only because of Lyme disease, but because of all of the other germs and diseases the tick can transmit that can be much more serious than Lyme disease & make you very ill."

Grrrrr, if that's so....why in the heck don't they do an entire show on it? It makes me so angry. I've emailed numerous times requesting - as have so many of you. I don't get it.

you know-i have been discouraging people from writing to her-cuz i have tried for many years with no response...BUT...if he did say that-i would say we really should respond in a huge way...it's timely now. we would be responding to something they said. i wish i was enought of a cheerleader to get everyone of us to write...long or short...but tell them the worse thing that has happened to you...she seems to like drama...i really do think we whould do this . NOW. they used to have a special place to go for lyme stories-anyone have time to find it.

i get to see one of my son's today-haven't seen him since christmas! so i won't be on here much -but let's do it!

I would hope she would do an AUTHOR'S FORUM and invite all the ILADS' doctors to share research from their articles/books and also the popular authors to share their discoveries as patients.

Of course, she could invite IDSA authors to share their work, too. But it would pale in comparison to that of ILADS.

One thing they may all agree on though is prevention and the need for better research.

The doctors who have authored books on complementary methods should also be welcome and - I even think a trip to GERMANY is in order for Oprah and her staff to interview Dr. W. and the patients there who have had treatment with the Bionic 880.

I volunteer to be a study case for the Bionic 880 for the segment on "what's new in treatment - looking across the ocean."

I believe I saw that show. I didn't think he was quite that clear on it, but I was impressed by what he said.

I agree with kayak that all these years our pleas have fallen on deaf ears...so maybe NOW would be a good time.

I would think she's got the year's shows all lined out however. It's worth a try!!!

Under Our Skin is going to be on the talk show with Dr. Oz that is part of Oprah's radio show.

So, it is a start. I am hoping she will do a whole show on it.

I learned this through an email I received from open eye productions

who is dr. oz?

(pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...)

in any event, the best connection would be open eye's film to oprah. that would trump anything patients had to say about these diseases.

use the film and maybe pam's book too. the last thing we need is her crew taking on the subject of lyme and unwittingly contacting the wrong sorts of "experts".

RE: RAdio show

I think it is called FX. One needs to pay to listen to it.

If I find out more info, I will post it here.

Oprah is something that I watch from time to time when I'm working out, so I can tell you that Dr. Oz is her "go-to" guest on all general medicine topics. He is a cardiologist/surgeon, & the co-author of the book "You- The Owner's Manual" which explains to we laymen how the human body works and how best to stay healthy. He's actually an informative, impressive person (in that TV kind of way).

You know how Oprah worships anyone she thinks is good at something, so since he said that about Lyme and co's on her show, it should certainly get her more intersted in the whole topic of LD.

Open Eye Pictures or the Turn the Corner Foundation would, I think, have info posted on how to access the radio program and/or its webfile. If not, you could email them the question, they would know how to get you access to the content.

This is really encouraging to hear.

Dr. Phil has a new show The Doctors.

http://www.drphil.com/shows/page/TheDoctors/

It is a panel of various doctors who answer questions that the veiwers submit.

What about this show?

When I have a few minutes I will write them.

Melissa

p.s.

Did you see Dr. Travis Stork? holy moley!

Yeah, I've wondered about the Doctors show. Mostly they glorify doctors... and I'm sure they would be leary of getting involved in the Lyme controversy.

But... writing to the show is still a good idea!!

Oh yes... Travis Stork! I watch him on the Mystery ER shows... or is it Diagnosis X??

Be careful with Dr. Phil. He was the one who derailed our 40,000 letter campaign to get Oprah to do a show on Fibromyalgia, back when many of us did not know our Fibro was really Lyme.

Like one poster said, she listens to those she admires, and he told her fibro was a psychiatric problem. That was all she needed to hear, and we had no chance, despite the many bags of mail she got from a huge, nationally organized letter writing effort.

If he is that much in the dark about fibro, one can only guess how he may feel about chronic Lyme. I am not saying don't try, but please don't get your hopes up too high.

I would stick with Dr. Oz, who already had Dr. Teitlebaum (Director of the FFC's) on for an entire radio show about fibro, and is open to alternative treatments. He even got Oprah to try acupuncture on one show, despite her being scared to death of needles.

I just found that the interview was on Sept. 17th and that it would be aired soon after. On Oprah's website, it lists the schedule for her XM radio show, and the time slots for Dr. Oz.

I had no idea about the 40,000 letters and Dr. Phil's erroneous perception of FMS. I've had FMS severely for 8 years, and just finally got my diagnosis of Lyme. Its unfathomable to me that he could possible believe its psychological, let alone voice his well known opinion for everyone to hear. I don't know how its possible for people to still believe that way-- unless they are much older, from a different generation and don't keep up with anything current.

I emailed Dr. Oz directly by going to Oprah's

web page just a few weeks ago about my lyme.

Also I added the bad experience I had with the

ID dr and my dr as being her first positive

patient. I added a few other things in the

email.
