I have a stiff face and it is hard to hold a smile. This is bothering me greatly because everyone knows me for always smiling and I want to show that I'm happy.
What could be causing this and what can I do to get rid of this?
I really would appreciate suggestions.

My husband has had it. His expression was off for at least two years. It has gotten better with treatment. He says his face (as far as stiffness) is about 98% normal now.

Stiff jaw? Yes, I have that off and on too. It's usually there on my bad days and it's also usually there when I have a stiff neck. I don't know what to do about it though, sorry. Posted by MysteryGirl44 (Member # 10201) on :
Thanks for the responses. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone.
Lymetoo, yep my skin is tight, too. Smiling feels like a huge strain on my face and I'm not able to hold it without it looking awkward. Posted by Nessa1815 (Member # 15697) on :
Yup, the skin on my face and my neck feels REALLY tight....like the kind of tight your skin feels after a bad sunburn or something. It's weird, I always wonder why it feels that way when there's no reason like a sunburn!

I couldn't access the article, but a quick search inputting the words, "stiff face cortisol" brought up the following:
"Resolution of Stiff-man syndrome with cortisol replacement in a patient with deficiencies of ACTH, growth hormone, and prolactin. ..."
Looks like it maybe due to a hormonal imbalance.
Here is one link that worked:
ABSTRACT A patient with long‐standing, occult pituitary insufficiency, who developed painful muscle stiffness and superimposed spasms, closely resembling stiff‐person syndrome, was described.
Complete resolution of neuromuscular symptoms with hormone replacement in this case, as well as in a previously reported one, led to the suggestion that a syndrome like stiff‐person could represent a rare consequence of multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies.
Thank you!
