I am being treated with Biaxin + Mepron for my Lyme and Babesia.
My heart pulse rate is around 110 consistently. Is it one of the symptom for lyme? Are there any problems associated with high pulse rate?
Should I ignore this high pulse rate or see a Cardiologist?

I have POTs and NMH.
Currently do mepron/biaxin combo as well.
I've had a nuclear stress test done.
It was normal.
However, I did have everything checked by a cardiologist.
You may want to also.
My pulse stays really high too.
When standing over 120 and climbing.
When sitting it is usually around 100 or lower.
When laying flat, it drops significantly.

its definitely a lyme symptom. Many times for no reason at all my heart rate goes to that.

I was told it's a babesia symtpom. Babesia does that to me and it gave me congestive heart failure. You might want to get an echo done and make sure your ejection fraction is okay.

My pulse has always been high, pre-Lyme. I barely got in to the military because of it - when I had my medical exam it was pounding at 140. I think that they wanted it to be under 100.
When I went to my llmd, my pulse was 120 and they did an EKG on me. It was fine. My dad also had a very heart rate and very high metabolism. My mom has a very slow heart beat and slow metabolism. I got my dad's genes.
Every doctor always comments on my fast heartbeat and ask if I'm nervous. I'm not nervous, just a fast heartbeat, that's all!
I'm not worried about mine. As long as I don't have chest pains along with it - and luckily, the treatment I'm on has eradicated all chest/heart pains completely. Posted by Marnie (Member # 773) on :
Do you know your electrolyte levels - especially potassium (K)? This requires a simple blood test to measure K, Na and Ca levels.
An imbalance can -> tachycardia (above 120 BPM)
Mg is difficult to actually measure because it is INTRAcellular as most is attached to ATP as Mg-ATP. Not much is in "general circulation".
A new test to measure intracellular Mg levels has JUST been developed. It suprisingly uses the 880nM wavelength:
"A novel, two-photon probe for the detection of free Mg2+ ions in living cells and live tissues has been developed.
The probe can be excited by
880 nm laser photons,
emits strong
two-photon excited
fluorescence in response to Mg2+ ions, can be easily loaded into the cell and tissue, shows high photostability, and can measure the Mg2+ ion concentration without interference by Ca2+ ions in living cells.

But like all newly discovered test methods...from research to actual practice is going to take YEARS.

I blame babesia for my tachycardia. I first began having trouble when I herxed on babesia meds 7 yrs ago.. Been on atenolol ever since.
I would suggest you speak to your dr about this because you COULD have what is called a long QT .. [google it]
Biaxin and other meds can cause someone with QT to have serious heart problems.
I can no longer take Biaxin because it made my heart do "flip-flops." Very scary. I have not been dxd with long QT, but I do have MVP with regurgitation.
You need an echocardiogram to check for that.

I too have this and blame the Babs and Lyme. I've had many heart tests that were normal, including a holter monitor.
At one point, my tachycardia calmed down and was actually staying around 70 - 80 bmp for a few months, but then switched treatment and it was back again and had to go back on the Toprol. Have been on that since.

I believe that tick borne disease can cause bradycardia as well. My heart rate tends to drop under 60 at times....

I had a hearet rate of 120- 2 years of abx, and weaning off-my heart rate has returned to pretty much notrmal.
Geneal-my POTS is way better-just a little high in the morning, normal thru the rest of the day-my neurologist doesn't feel I have POTS anymore.
If you take zithro, you have to have an EKG to make sure you don't have a long QT interval, or it can cause serious heart problems

lymeorsomething, I suffer from bradycardia as well. My heart rate gets really low, it's really uncomfortable. Generally it's around 50 beats now.
Anyone know much about low heart rates, and the affects they have on the body?

I have it as well. I have had mine go as high as 165 just from standing up to make toast (hospital only drug tested me and sent me home)
My rate is normally at least 100.. usually around the 120 mark if I'm standing.
I also have skipped beats. I've been to a cardiologist and an electrophysisist. I've worn holter monitors, I've worn a looping monitor for a month, I've had echocardiograms... Everything is fine, structurally.
The next one they wanted to do was some kind of catheter up the vein in my leg to my heart and do some sort of electrical test. I decided to wait on that one.
Then I found out I have Lyme... and I am convinced it's lyme/co infection related.
