What would cause high iron?
I have been on antibiotics for 4 years to treat lyme and this is a new finding.
Mine is 183.
Anyone know what causes this or what the dangers are with high iron?

Hemochromatosis is an iron overload disease... but I don't know why you'd have it (of course, you may not) or what could cause it in lyme and co's.

Dr. K. talks about iron and minerals quite a bit.
Here is some of it.

Take care.

Bb has a gene for transferrin.

Transferrin TRANSPORTS iron.

(Lactoferrin binds it.)

Hey....Lyme does'nt like IRON....

maybe you're drinking too much water and you're rusting out! LOL...or

The lyme is giving you a false reading so you'll stop eating spinich or broccoli!

better get it checked out and stay away from magnets like as in MRI machines...you may blow up or something drastic like that!...LOL!

From what Ive learned about iron... the normal range is between 20-320...so you fall within the range, but, my LLMD told me its better to get the iron level down under 60 as most lyme protocols are burdensome on the liver. Higher iron is hard on the liver and organs to function properly.

As for how it got that high... are you a man or woman...most men have higher iron as women have their monthlies that allow blood loss, thereby reducing their iron. With men, over time, the iron levels used are far less then the iron taken in (cereals, meats, etc), so that overtime the level continues to rise.

The solution is a phlebotomy, basically a blood draw, whereby the blood is removed at different intervals. The old blood disposed of, and the body regenerates new, without the higher iron, which lowers the overall level.

Also, make sure you're not taking any vitamins with iron. Most older peoples supplements, like Centrum Silver, dont have iron, because of that reason.
