The ringing in my ears is really bad and effects my hearing among other things,
Has anyone ever had this go away after treatment.

Yes, it did go away. It was actually one of the first things to leave. I've been treated since Feb/March '07, and the ringing resolved pretty quickly after tx began. Unlike most of my other symptoms, which do make return appearances from time to time, recurrence of the ringing has been extremely rare.
My ears were ringing constantly before treatment, affecting everything. It was a very difficult symptom to live with. I was so happy when tx helped.
I was taking 400 mgs doxy daily.

I've read that supplementing with fish oil can help the tinnitus.
Fish oil reduces inflammation and "thins the blood," which should improve bloodflow, thus increasing oxygen to the brain.

Hi there
I'm on the other side of that coin. I have had ringing in the ears for so long I can't really remember but I would say around 10 years now.
Hope yours goes away soon. I'm a musician and sometimes it can be a little aggravating when I'm trying to record an instrument and have that loud ringing in my ears at the same time!

I've had late-stage lyme symptoms since Aug 2007. Didn't start with any ear ringing problems.
In late Oct 2007 I took 3 doses of IV Claforan, at which point I figured out it must be an adverse reaction, and discontinued - whew, that's some nasty stuff!
Ear ringing began with 2nd dose, and has never left. When I'm herxing, it gets a lot louder. Or under any kind of stress, physical, emotional.
For instance, when I take my Mepron, within 5 minutes I can hear the ears winding up, and at Mepron+10 minutes they're fully cranked, and stay that way for a couple hours.
I've kinda gotten used to the low-level ringing - I wouldn't mind losing it, though. Someday...

Tinnitus can come from infection itself, from the liver not being able to keep up with the toxic load of infection &/or some medicines that are toxic to the ear system . . . and other reasons.
Minocycline and Zithromax (and, for some, Biaxin) are some of the most troublesome for those who report tinnitus from abx.
But, aspirin and other over the counter products can also trigger it and make it worse, so check out the ototoxic links in the Tinnitus thread below.
When on abx, our ears are much more sensitive to noise, so wearing earplugs to dry our hair, run the vacuum, etc. is very important.
Wearing in the ear head phones can be damaging, too. Even at low levels of soft music, the electrical stimulation is just TOO close to the tender ear nerve, according to the author of the book, "The Mozart Effect."
Past noise damage can also show up in the form of tinnitus years, even decades later. But, I think with certain supplements the some of the damage might be mitigated a bit. Fish oil, B-vitamins, etc . . . whatever is good for neural tissue.
Here are a few threads with more information.
I find liver support to help but I also have to avoid certain meds.
I began andrographis about 6 weeks ago (as per Buhner's book) and find that seems to lessen the tinnitus better than anything I've done over the years. It also makes me very sleepy, so just a note of caution to be prepared if you try that.
On the flip side, there are MANY reports of tinnitus getting better when the infections are cleared.

My ears ring as well. Wasn't bad enough with all the other symptoms and the unbearable pain, the ringing kept me from sleeping at all for about 4 months!
In the quite of the night that's all there is RINGING!
Turn off all electronic stuff you can. TV's, flourecent lights, over head fans, even lights. Keep your ears as clean as possible. I went and got my ears cleaned out by my doctor. He said my ears produce alot more wax than most. Any wax build up will make the ringing worse as well as the vertigo.
Keep as far away from the braker box in your house.

I'm still struggling with it. Thought it was caused by my years of hairdryers.
I'm also a musician, but it's most distracting when I'm trying to sleep.

Yes, I only have it occasionally now. It had gotten so bad that it was painful.
I still remember my neuro telling me, "STOP telling me that your ears ring, EVERYONE has that!"
Ummmm .... NO, not like what we experience!!
It is a relief to be rid it.

I just realized today that my ears aren't ringing anymore...after over 3 yrs of treatment.
