Last night while I was eating dinner, I suddenly felt (momentarily) like I could not swallow, like all had gone numb there.
It went away relatively quickly, but being the anxiety ridden mess that I am, I also experienced weak legs, palpitations and elevated BP. Also did a lot of belching afterwards.
The rest of the night it felt like my throat was constricted. At about 11:00 i sucked on an altoid and that feeling went away.
I had this once before a couple of months ago but it wasn't as severe as this episode.
Anyone relate to this?

All the time. I went a few years thinking I 'just' had anxiety. One of my biggest problems was swallowing. Sometimes I start to swallow and then I feel like I will choke, like my throat muscles don't work. I lost a lot of weight a few years ago due to it.
For me, it is easier to swallow liquids. I had a lot of problems this week with swallowing, so I drank juice when I felt my blood sugar dropping.
I also have tons of panic attacks and anxiety. So sorry that you are going through this.

we were at a home show and my throat iterally closed up. if elt like i was choking and couldn't swallow. it was awful.
i've got it back but it's not as bad..
this and and the tinnitus are the worst

I've had that.
Even occured when trying to swallow saliva.
It has caused me to aspirate liquids/saliva more than once.
Sometimes a sip of very cold water helped.
I went back on doxy after these occurences and they went away.
It does cause panic, but panic didn't cause the symptom.

Geneal, I am on Doxy.....what an awful feeling though. I was a little apprehensive when eating breakfast today but everything went down just fine.

I had this CHOCKING feeling and I could not breath and felt numb as you 2 years prior the the last bite.I have had several occasions that were scary.But mine was completly gone with the treatment.
My son can not take high dosages as I am but he has the same problems and is not resolved.I bet Lyme is active and agreasive due to the coinfections.My son has BART high titers BIG time.And he treated babesia before bart.
I treated BART before BABS so I have had exstremely improvement -from neuro to twitching to dizenes and to heart problems thanks to beeing agreasive mostly on bart but covering other coinfections.Now I am on HOW dosages of ARTEMISIN for babesia.But I have no problem again as MY SON has.
He still has hard time swalloing and throught and chocking problem even though he is way better than last year.Keep treating and it would go away .

Hey, Definitely not nice, I can't stand it, it's so annoying and scary. I also aspirated my water twice tonight while eating, as I tend to pour water into my mouth with the food to help with the swallowing.
Mine was really bad 2003-2005 and then better in 06-07 (during my pregnancy of course) and it's gotten worse lately.
This is one symptom I was hoping wouldn't get bad this time (I've gone through periods where I'm nearly symptoms free and then it comes back).
Let us know if this resolves and I'll do the same. I think I'm going to eat some ice cream tonight just for the calories (my oldest daughter turned 5 today).

I have this too - cant swallow properly, choke on food or liquid then pee myself.

Thanks for this posting. I've noticed for the last few years that I seem to be choking on my food more often then in the past. Its an odd thing that comes and goes. I've never mentioned it to my LLMD as I didn't think it was important. Now I realize it may be.

Well looks like there are a few of us that this happens to.
I guess we are all still here and plugging along, so that is a good thing!
It must be the nerve responsible for swallowing that is being attacked?
Or the part of the brain responsible for swallowing?
Do you know which one is responsible? Geneal, I'll bet that you have the answer to this.

I had this and my 12 year old daughter has it as well. For her it's worse late in the afternoon and at night. She has bad anxiety at this time and doesn't want to eat. When I had it I also felt I couldn't see (I have trouble with my eyes). Don't know what the cause or solution is. Karen
