Ok, i just realized something....yea i know it takes me a while anyway, i just noticed that my IV bag says Ceftriaxone (generic for Rocephin) injection USP (in Dextrose)......isn't Dextrose sugar???
Arn't we suppose to stay away from sugar???? could that be what is making me feel terrible about half way through my treatment?
oh my....am i on to some thing any ideas???
I will call the dr tomorrow and ask but i thought one of you might know

I don't know. I know that IV saline contains glucose.

No it doesn't! IV saline is simply NaCl. You can get dextrose added, but regular saline most certainly does not contain dextrose.

And, to answer the original question, the amount of sugar in a small bag of D5NaCl (or D5W) is minuscule. We all have glucose in our bloodstream. Getting a little bit extra (and it is a very little bit) won't change anything.

If you are overly concerned - get a glucose meter. Check your sugar before the infusion and again after. I'll bet you $5 it doesn't change significantly.

Don't worry about it. You're probably feeling worse from the abx, not the tiny bit of sugar in the infusion!
