I'm no expert, but I believe what you're asking is unfortunately illegal. One could get in HUGE HUGE trouble for forwarding drugs to someone they were not prescribed for. I know it's a shame in today's world, but it's reality.

That's interesting because Ketek was one of the first abx's I was on and it helped me a lot. I did not have any type of pneumonia at the time.

I was on Ketek for 10 months and unfortunately didn't do much for me.

My husband is a pharmacist and the store he works at can't even get Ketek.

There was some ketek shortage on the manufacturers side so for several months there was no ketek produced.
Should be fine now, I hope.

My doctor says Ketek is one antibiotic you have to be careful with. If your liver enzymes go up, even when you're pulled off, they can continue to spiral.

I was on it I think for 2 months and had to go every 2 weeks for lab work to check liver enzymes. He pulled me off after 2 months when they started to escalate.

Needless to say, it should be monitored by a physician. Please be very careful!

Brf,
It is not exactly the way you have described. It is true that Ketek can kill but it is very, very rare. Still there is bad luck.
The fatal cases I know were unrelated to LD and the death has come quickly. Took the first dose on Monday, dead by Thursday.
If Ketek is effective and if the patient has some Bb liver infection some liver enzyme elevation is expected and should be tolerated. This is a liver herx. Once it is over your liver enzyme will return to normal while you continue taking Ketek.

agreed. the drug is not dangerous. the case/s that brought about the whole black label of the drug were 2 localized cases same dr who failed to monitor the patients LFTs for long term therpay unrelated to chronic LD.

it is a great abx for lyme and id like to try it.

i have labs drawn every 2 weeks and i am a rather prudent lyme patient.

so...anyone know where to locate some?

thanks

Look for JillE's posts. She was on Ketek and her liver was severely affected. She now has to be very, very careful with whatever she takes due to her liver.

I would be very careful about Ketek.

that is one person's experience and may not nececarily be just from the use of the singel abx ketek.

being careful on the drug is a given.

trying the drug is not a big deal under controlled and supervised conditions.

this thread was created in an effort to find out how to allocate some ketek, not debate its safety.

thanks

Buy it from Spain or Belgium as no prescriptions are needed for any drug in that country - I know as I live there and have never had to have a script for any medication.
