Wormser's friend Dr. Shapiro is on now... interesting show.

Listen to it later if you missed it kqed.org

Snake Shapiro "If people have it for a long time it is not likely to be Lyme disease and some may never have had it".

What a jerk!!! I guess we can now add to the prize list for Cracker Jacks - medical licenses.

I did catch the very tail end of the show since my father-in-law that lives out there had heard it going on in the radio in his car and mentioned it.

When I got there, Sharpairo was talking and I'm thinking....."oh dear....not good", but then the other two sort of cleaned up his garbage. I did miss the first 50 minutes of it.

Was there any LLMD involved or was Sharpairo the only "doctor" present for this?

I'm sure it will be put online for all of us but isn't there YET.

I think Shapiro was the only doctor on the show. They said they invited a number of doctors who took the opposing position (vs. Weintraub), and he was the only one to agree to it. I don't think they invited any LLMDs.

SnakeO was the only MD on the show. Dr. Stricker a LLMD was suppose to be on with Andy the director of Under our Skin. They had to cancel that show and moved the date so maybe that is why no LLMD was on and just the reptile.

Dr. Stricker is probably busy with the Lyme conference while Shapiro had some extra time from his job giving out misinformation and destroying lives to come on and spew out some more bad information.

I am listening to it now, and I want to refute something that Eugene Shapiro said, so that everyone understands the argument.

He tried to belittle the fact that the IDSA guidelines are currently under review, saying that all IDSA guidelines go through a periodic review process. I have read this argument once before from the IDSA, so I want to clarify, so everyone will know how to answer such a statement.

Shapiro is being deceptive. Here is the background. Guidelines that are accepted to the National Guidelines Clearinghouse can stay for 5 years, see
http://www.guideline.gov/about/inclusion.aspx
In order to remain in the Clearinghouse, the guidelines need to be reviewed and/or revised.

The IDSA came up with guidelines in the year 2000. In 2005, they hadn't quite finished the revision process, so they were without Lyme guidelines in the Clearinghouse for about a year, until their current guidelines were published in 2006.

That is NOT what is taking place now.

It is unprecedented that the IDSA Lyme guidelines will be reviewed in less than 2 years since they were published. They usually wait 5 years.

It is unprecedented that none of the prior authors will be allowed to serve on the review panel.

It is unprecedented that the guidelines are under review, not because of a periodic review process, but because of a legal agreement reached with the State of Connecticut after an investigation of untoward practices on the part of the authors.

Don't let anyone from the IDSA fool you. The guidelines are under review because, under the circumstances, it is better than being sued by the State of Connecticut.

Thank you for such a clear explanation on what Shapiro is doing.

That explains a lot. Shapiro is very deceptive and misleading.
