My recent lab results through Labcorp shows that my B12 level is high,1107 (Lab range is 211-911). I was told by the PA at my llmd's office that this indicates that my body is not absorbing it or is producing more than it's using.
Anyone else have this issue? What should I do about it?
I asked the PA if this means that perhaps my body is not absorbing other nutrients. She said that this was a good question.
She recommended that I have blood drawn for methlnalonic acid to check absorption level. I'm not sure if I am explaing this correctly.
Have you done any tests to check your body's nutrient absorption level?
Thanks so much for your help!

Extra b12 should be excreated why you have a build up is deffinatly different. I now have to take b12 shots lots abxs burned up my stores then put intrinsic factor down permnantly??? If your taking abxs and have to do them for a long time I wouldnt be worried to much because you will effect the intrinsic factor so its good b12 is high.

Take some folic acid that should help your body process the b12 . Alcohol lowers b12. or your body may be using it to fight toxins that would account for high levels in blood.

I have this, too. My doc who is very good in biomedicine told me the same as your doc's PA said:
It shows that my body is not absorbing it. I then had this methylnalonic acid (sp?)test done which, according to my doc, is the more intelligent test to check for Vit B12 levels.
This test showed that I was deficient in Vit B12 - therefore, I'm supplementing it.
I had also many other nutrients checked (mostly minerals and amino acids) and I was deficient in most of them which means that my body isn't absorbing most nutrients well.

Found something What does it mean if you have an abundance of Vitamin B12 in your body?
This may be a sign of liver damage due to alcohol consumption; in this case, the GGT will also be elevated.
How is it used? ggt The GGT test helps to detect liver and bile duct injury. While some doctors use it in all people they suspect of having liver disease, others use it only to help explain the cause of other changes or if they suspect alcohol abuse. For example, both ALP and GGT are elevated in disease of the bile ducts and in some liver diseases, but only ALP will be elevated in bone disease. If the GGT level is normal in a person with a high ALP, the cause is most likely bone disease. GGT can also be used to screen for chronic alcohol abuse (it will be elevated in about 75% of chronic drinkers).

If you have lyme it could be affecting your liver and or bile ducts or get checked for babs bart?

Thank you all for your input. I had labwork done last week for methlnalonic acid to check B12 absorption level and also to check liver enzymes. I have not received the results back yet.
Treepatrol, it's interesting that you should mention I get tested for Babs or Bart. My llmd recently did testing for babs and bart through NeuroImmmunology (IgG- abnormal, IgM - normal for both); Igenex( Babs negative, Bart IgM <1:20, IgG<1:40 negative?)and Fry Labs result: "few coccobacilli adherent to erythrocytes indicated b arrow. This is suggestive of Hemobartonella or Mycoplasma spp.
How reliable is Fry labs?
I am going to see llmd to discuss these results but would appreciate your thoughts about them.
Thanks again for yur help!

If you're supplementing with B12, the specific test for B12 is pretty much useless because your levels WILL be high.
With supplementation, it's better to get your MMA and Homocysteine levels tested.

I wasnt producing enough B12, so now I have to take 3 dissolve caplets a day of it.

My B12 level went very high when my liver enzymes were elevated due to starting ceftriaxone
