emedicine-Folic Acid Deficiency

Interesting reading.

Bactrim (smx-tmp) can cause this, as can a lot of other things.

Thank You AliG,

I guess Folic Acid, B Vitamins - esp B12 & B1, magnesium, glutithion and more are in great jeopardy due to our disease.

The important thing to remember is that you can't just supplement one of the B vitamins by itself -- including folic acid.

Always take B complex if also supplementing with any one of the B vitamins individually and that includes folic acid.

If you have elevated homocysteine that usually indicates a folic acid definciency or a problem with one of the other B vitamins involved in the methylation pathway.

If you supplement folic acid and are also B12 deficient and do not also supplement with B12 that can mask the B12 deficiency and nerve damage can continue undetected.

Excellent point Bea, Thanks for adding it! [Smile]

I just posted on your thread about hubby because I knew he was on the Bactrim & had been having problems.

I thought it might have been related, but I see you're already on top of this.
