Good description by Dizzy.
I was surprised that it wasn't painful.

good discription. the picc line is "peripherally inserted cathater" which means it goes in your arm (usually brachial vein) and is advanced until the tip enters the larger vessels that send blood into your heart, then to the rest of your system from there.. this can only be done by certified folks, and should always be confirmed by x-ray, for your own sake note the "length" of the line in case of any problems
site needs to be very well taken care of to avoid infections. in the home setting can be changed once a week under "sterile" technique
infection with higher risk as the line does deliver meds into systems large veins, heart, then body and if bacteria introduced can mean severe systemic infection of infection of the heart itself..so take very good care of the site, medications, use !!!
also, once removed tip is usually cut off and sent for culture depending on the doc..should always be done in event of complications
if you will be doing the home infusions yourself make sure to follow the sterile tech. the nurse should teach you..do not get complacent or could cause problems..best wishes.
