Stay upright dont lay down at least 1 hr situp. Drink some more water and if you can eat something it will slow absorbtion. Hang in there oh if there is anyone around tell them what your on and if they can have them come sit with you that way if something did happen they could get you help. I doubt anything will happen other than a herx or upset tummy thouh. Better to error on caution.

Hey Nobody,
I can't tell you if what you're experiencing is a herx or not, but I can tell you that Minocycline hits me like a ton of bricks every time I take it.
Within a half an hour I begin to herx and it's a neuro herx...different from all the rest with other abx.
My guess is that this is what you're experiencing. I feel for you because I know what a powerful punch that stuff packs.
Hang in there, remeber it's doing it's job and I hope you feel better soon.

Most people have dizziness as a side effect, it goes away though. I hope you feel better. Also, take it with food, so it is absorbed more slowly

I HATE Mino. It's the only abx that gave me neck stiffness and upper back pain/uncomfortableness. I can't stand that symptom either. It's one of the worst symptoms, for sure. It hurts to sit, hurts to lay, etc.

You do, because that medication is second to none for CNS penetration and, aside from its documented side effects, any additional unpleasantness you feel is likely the fallout of its bacteria killing action.

sounds like herx
high doses of benicar are reportd to ease bad herxes
if your herx is intolerable, you might consider reducing your mino dose... it took me many weeks to build up to 100 mg

Thanks everyone. It was worse earlier when I first took the mino, but its not as bad now. Looking at the computer screen seems to increase the lightheadedness / dizziness.
Maybe I will only take one every other day for now, just to ease in to it. The pills are 100mg each, so unless I open the capsule, there's no way to take less, and don't they irritate the esophagus that way?

Yes, this can have some of the same effects (esp. vertigo) in others. And - B6 may help. NAC, too.
By means of a former investigation it has been proved equilibriometrically that the application of 7 X 100 mg minocycline may induce a central equilibrium dysregulation of the brainstem type.
It was the purpose of this study to further assure that the minocycline induced brainstem vertigo is due to a destabilization of a supervisory gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic loop from the archeocerebellum upon the pontomedullary vestibular regulating pathways.
As it is pharmacologically known that pyridoxine is essential for the synthesis of GABA, an inhibitory CNS neurotransmitter, 2 separate double blind trials on 20 healthy young persons each were carried out after the intake of 7 X 100 mg minocycline during 3 days with and without 7 X 40 mg pyridoxine simultaneously.
These trials were checked against an additional placebo or initial non drug investigation. In all the 40 test persons it could be proved that the amount of vertigo and nausea symptoms was increased significantly due to the application of minocycline only.
*** However, when combining minocycline with vitamin B 6, the vertigo and nausea symptoms as well as the nystagmus signs from the monaural and the binaural vestibular ocular tests as well as the vestibular spinal signs from the craniocorpography recordings of the stepping and the standing procedures were remarkably reduced. ***

All the equilibriometric tests applied showed a significant destabilization under the influence of a pure minocycline loading.

You could ask your doctor for 50 mg pills. I've been taking those every other day for 4 weeks. Then she'll probably have me take 50 mgs every day and then 100 mgs every other day. I would rather go slow than have to quit because it was too much.

The Road Back Foundation at www.roadback.org may be a place to see what helps others. I talked to someone there a while back and they said that the pelleted, time-released MINOCIN was easier for some.
