Over the last few months my teeth have become brown and the tartar is out of control I take good care of my teeth brushing at least 2 more like three times a day.
Anyone have this? What causes this?
I feel like my teeth are going to rot out of my head and I really like my teeth
Thanks.
Melissa

tetracycline abx will discolor teeth
I've experienced quicker than normal tartar build up too. My guess is the abx are changing the typical levels of assorted bacteria in the mouth, and somehow that is connected.

Thanks dguy
So does this mean once I stop doxy it will stop?

Don't know. I'd think it will stop getting worse.

I don't recall the name of the abx but, years ago, I was on one that seemed to grow fuzz on my teeth. This was not candida (though that, too) but my teeth actually got a thick layer of stuff that would not brush off no matter how hard I tried.
I am really enjoying how much better my mouth is since I've been taking andrographis. I also got a new Flexcare Sonicare electric toothbrush. Miles ahead their previous model. It really cleans.
But the discoloring from a particular abx would not be affected by external treatments. Be sure to ask your LLMD.

I had the "fuzzy teeth" feeling too (on doxycycline). Brushing a lot helped, but didn't totally eliminate it.
Sometimes I would rub my teeth with something dry, like terrycloth, or a crumpled paper towel. Don't know why, but it seemed to feel better.
I am not on antibiotics right now, and no longer have the fuzzy teeth feeling, but I'd gladly deal with "fuzzy teeth" instead of the lyme symptoms that have re-emerged since I ran out of doxy!
My teeth became more discolored over the last year as well. (They already were, as I've always been a big coffee drinker.) But what's really weird is that now my teeth appear much more translucent too. I don't know if this is related to antibiotics or not.
Has anyone tried tooth whiteners? Did they help? Did they cause you problems with sensitivity?

Sadly, yes, most tooth whiteners do cause problems with sensitivity? Some severely, so. These are very strong chemicals that get absorbed into our system, too.
Be very careful. I brush with baking soda. Let it dissolve in mouth before brushing and don't push too hard. that helps.

I have this too. The LLMD said it was because the antibiotic was so concentrated in my body that it changed the PH level in my mouth.
I've got the extra tarter too. He told me to see a dentist and have it taken care of.

A good dental hygienest can remove the discoloration. I got that too with doxy, less so with other abx.

I got the brown with Iv rocephin. this from one with an Ultrabrite smile and meticulous hygene.
A 6 month teeth cleaning took care of the problem.

It is not rot.

My husband gets it also. He has to have his teeth cleaned every three months.

My teeth were disintegrating and falling in pieces,,,even had holes from front to back right thru them.
When I started taking a couple Citrical(suplement calcium) and a magnesium,,
I felt this sx subside and quit geting "WORSE",,,but of course didnt reverse it,just slowed it to a crawl.
Had one of those osteoporosis scans too and had enough bone wasting to warrant the once a week pill.
BE real careful with Boniva and all the OTHER similiar bone pills.
They dont ever mention BUT a dentist wont even pull a bad tooth after taking that,,,years previous.
I quit YEARS ago taking it AND had to go dentist shopping to get 'necessary' work done.
Ended up just NOT telling the new people.
MORE side effects than they claim to THOSE drugs!!!
