Does anyone out there have info on cortisone shots and their effect on lymes?

It reactivated a latent lyme infection in me. I went from extremely healthy to very ill in 3 weeks time.

The top lyme experts say "NO" - even if you are told that it will stay localized, it will not.
Even steroid creams or topical lotions are to be avoided.

I also had several, most before I knew I had lyme. Always go sicker.
Even after I knew I should not, my podiatrist shot the ball of my foot with a steroid shot - I had a broken bone - and said it would stay localized. I had a terrible worsening of all lyme symptoms for months after that.
Same with an inhaler. I kept telling a doctor that they made me feel too wired and he said he had a new one that just stayed in the lungs. I was hesitant to try it but he tricked me by asking me to hold my breath for a while. As soon as I "came up for air" he unloaded the inhaler right at my mouth.
I was so wired for months. It was the most horrible I've every felt. And that was before I knew about lyme or the steroid connection.
I'm certainly not telling anyone to get off inhalers but it is vital to consult with your LLMD if you are using steroids of ANY kind. NEVER just stop. That can be dangerous. But get expert advice from a LLMD as to how to go about that - and if inhalers are needed - how that might best be done.

i had 2 injections about 12 days after my em rash came out... whammo! full-blown lyme that the abx couldn't take care of. now have chronic lyme.
avoid steroids at all costs. i will never get steroids for the rest of my life, if i have any say in the matter.

I've had 4 cortisone shots, 2 in each knee (before I knew I had Lyme of course). If anything I think it attracted the Lyme bugs to my knees even more than they were before.

I had steroid shots in my eye for a granuloma....which was resolved by the steroid shots...Makes one wonder...

In the matter of life-and-death (or vision-loss or hearing-loss) steroids can be just the ticket.
There is a way to do that and not have the lyme blossom, however. Abx for 48 hours prior, during and after . . . and just the right abx combination . . . . etc. It is best guided by a LLMD.
Of course, in an emergency, if steroids can help, you have to make the call that makes the most sense. Then do what you can to stabilize if necessary.

- All the cortisone shots I've had have been directly into a joint. It is extremely painful. And for days afterward, too. However, of the 7 or so shots I've had in hands, elbows, feet, 5 times they did relieve pain for a few months at a time.
There are other risks, though. Repeated shots can turn cartlidge (sp?) to jello. Still, all that said, you have to weigh all things.
