I have a friend that just found out he has prostate cancer (about 48 years old) and it is a pretty progressive form.

I know a decen tbit about lyme but nothing about cancer hardly...

He is going to start radiation this week, I don't think they are going to do chemo on him... I am asking if there are any supplements out there good for treating cancer that I could give to him and any alternative therapys that are out there that have shown some success.

Thanks!

Check out New Chapter's Zyflamend

http://www.newchapter.com/articles/view/zyflamend-effective-in-prostate-health

A Columbia University study has reportedly demonstrated Zyflamend, an proprietary herbal extract preparation, suppresses prostate cancer cell growth.

The study also found Zyflamend induces prostate cancer cells to self-destruct via a process called ``apoptosis.'' Columbia researchers said their study suggests Zyflamend has the ability, in vitro, to reduce prostate cancer cell proliferation by as much as 78 percent and confirms Zyflamend has COX-1 and COX-2 anti-inflammatory effects, although its anti-cancer affects against prostate cancer were independent of COX-2 inhibition. ``That,'' said the scientists, ``supports the postulation that some prostate cancer cells are not affected by COX-2 inflammation.''

``These results were particularly surprising and show great promise in the fight against prostate cancer,'' said researcher Dr. Debra Bemis of the Columbia University Department of Urology. ``We hope that the magnitude of benefits shown in this research will be confirmed in the larger scale trial already in progress.'' On the strength of the laboratory research, Columbia's department of urology has commenced a Phase 1 human clinical trial testing Zyflamend's ability to prevent prostate cancer in patients with prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia -- a clinical precursor for prostate cancer.

The study is detailed in the journal, Nutrition and Cancer.

There is a well known holistic MD that has appeared on PBS that did a study treating men with prostrate cancer by changing their diet.

Send me a PM if you want his name. I think he was fairly successful but I am not certain you could investigate if interested. I met a men once who was in one of his studies and felt he was improving.

I think his diet was vegan or mostly veggies and carbs but it seemed from what I was told to help many men.

Check out any website on LDN (low dose naltrexone) and there are many good reoprts on it. Cheap too.
There are official clinical trials ongoinfg for various issues. It is an old medicine just being used for new things now.
I take it for autoimmune issues, like hashimoto's.

CHK1 (channel kinase 1 = transfer phosphate groups)is one of the protein kinases that inactivates cdc25 to ***arrest the cell cycle when DNA is damaged.***

We need it to kick in. To stop the cell when DNA damaged has happened. We need the DNA damaged cells to DIE.

Lots of things can cause DNA damage...ongoing oxidative stress (too many free radicals), exposure to bad chemicals, and pathogens.

Normally our NK (natural killer cells) knock off about 4 precancerous cells every day when we are healthy.

It does so by....very simply stated...squirting them with a free radical.

Oxidizing them.

COX4-2 is "on"...as well as HO-1 and the gene HIF-1. The body is literally trying hard to "burn" the pathogen and destroy the infected cell.

The body is trying to oxidize Fe (many pathogens use iron to replicate or in other ways) AND to oxidize the cell walls (lipoproteins) of a pathogen.

While we need glucose and oxygen to survive and to make a lot of ATP...that oxygen leads to the free radicals...

Think of them as lone oxygen molecules looking for something to bind to.

Hydrogen is a biggie. We MAKE H2O2 inside our cells very very briefly. This destroys MOST pathogens (it is a mild acid), but the cell can't remain "acidic"...so in steps our most abundant antioxidant enzyme (in 1/400,000th of a second)called catalase.

We also make other things that are capable of destroying pathogens...CO...yes, even carbon monoxide, and NO.

But some dangerous pathogens have evolved to be resistant to our normal destructive means.

Now that you know how our body normally protects us...

I have several prostate cancer files because, like you, I have a friend (also young) who has prostate cancer.

I also posted a lot of current research here because I think Bb is one of the pathogens that can trigger prostate cancer...in time.

The body has LOTS of defenses that will come into play.

It tries hard to prolong our lives.

Do you want my files? If so, PM me and I will cut and paste them.

Or for the very "latest" information, go here:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

The above is Pubmed. It is a data base of research being done around the world.

And in the search window, type in

Prostate cancer

This will bring up medical summaries of the latest research...including that which many doctors have not yet read...or put into practice.

It takes a long time for research successes to go into practice.

The "flip" is also true...a long time to stop treatments that don't work.

Once on Pubmed...don't freak about all the medical jargon...read the title...and then read the last few sentences first.

Good writing = what were they looking for/what did they find (title)...and then repeat this at the end of the summary.

Once on Pubmed, you can imput a number...like this one:

19006645

2008 research...we need to look at very current research 'cause we've learned a lot along the way.

I have a friend who's PSA level came down on Essiac for 3 months. They were talking about either chemo or radiation previous to this. It's now down low enough to not warrant either - just monitoring. He's now doing the Breuss Juice Protocol in an attempt to totally erradicate it.

Byron,

I just came across some information about the use of Modified Citrus Pectin for cancer, specifically prostate cancer.

The company who makes the product is:

http://www.econugenics.com/

The researching doctor's website is:

http://www.dreliaz.org/

I have a PDF that talks about the use of MCP in prostate cancer patients, if you PM me your email address, I can send it to you.

My post above has a 90% cure rate !
I had a call from my Dr. today and
"I am cured "
I had 43 treatments and today was just a follow up.
If there was an alternative treatment with that cure rate I would have gone that way but this was a proven treatment.

Others seem to have some good leads. This may also be one to consider.

Andrographis, cancer - 29 abstracts

Andrographis, prostate+ cancer - 3 abstracts

One of those:

In Vivo. 2005 May-Jun;19(3):551-7.

Morphological and biochemical changes of andrographolide-induced cell death in human prostatic adenocarcinoma PC-3 cells.

Excerpt:

. . . andrographolide-treated cells showed considerable caspase-3 activation and caspase-8 in PC-3 cells at 4 and 2 hours after treatment, respectively. This suggests andrographolide-induced cell death was achieved through the apoptotic pathway, via the activation of an extrinsic caspase cascade.

I know of a doctor who treated himself with abx on the theory that it was being caused by a pathogen. PSA levels came down. Don't know if this was an earlier stage than your friend and might not react the same.

It is a reoccuring theory that Cancer is the result of the body trying to encapsulate a Fungal infection. Not my area of expertise, but there are many indications that there is a Fungal element involved with many Cancers.

There is a novel treatment that involved cooking Maple Syrup with Baking Soda to kill Cancer. The Cancer sucks up the sugar from the syrup, but the baking soda alkalinizes the cells killing the Cancer.

I do not know anyone personally who has used this method, but I like the mechanics behind it.
