Does anyone know if it is common to get an ear ache from borrelia or a co-infection or can the antibiotics cause this? I started getting an ear ache the last few days and am wondering where this is coming from, unless this is just a coincidence. I don't want to go to my local primary doc because I will just end up in an argument over what I am going through. I also can't drive out of state just to see my LLMD for an ear ache.
Anyone run into this issue?

I have had earache problems while on antibiotics and ended up at the speicalist who had to treat with Drops and with double triple antibiotics to clear it up and it was HORRIBLE and so painful and so hard to treat. Never figured out what the connection but got them within a couple months of starting abx a couple years in row. As well a root canal got all infected and that was horrible and hard to treat too and as well some infections of throat etc. You would think there would be none of these while on all the abx. But it is a problem for me.

That was one of my first symptoms... prior to any abx.... and after abx but not during.
I know that is in no way determanistic but thats what I saw...

With the holiday coming and we are leaving for vacation this Saturday. Going to Disneyworld. We have had this planned and paid for, for two years and now I am going to be a mess. Lyme plus an earache, what next?
Should I try to see my local primary(internist) doctor and just not tell him about my Lyme treatment or see an ear nose and throat specialist?

If you are on abx right now, theres likely not much that they can give you that would be different (maybe erythromicin or somthing like that).

Also, MANY won;t agree with me on this BUT... If you are taking abx already, a small dose of prednisone can help a lot for a day or two.
Maybe a Dr will give you a few days worth. You don't want to stay on the stuff for a long time but a few days along with the abx can considerably reduce the inflamation and resulting pain.
If it does not do anything within an hour or two then don't take any more. I have seen that a single 5 mg dose usually lasts for about a day. I keep some handy if there is a critical meeting or presentation that I have to do. It does not however help with "brain fog", as i had hoped.

You should see a Ear Nose Throat doctor and tell him about your abx.. There are others you can take for the ear thing and as well get Antibiotic drops for the outer ear. Mine got to the outer ear because it was not healing. I wish I could remember the name of the strong ABX but I can not right now. Even on the ABX I had my lyme doc was the one to first add amoxocillin and then he is the one that sent me to the Specialist. So do not be afraid to tell them and do not be afraid to ask for different kinds.. Good Luck.

Getting a doctor's appointment before Thanksgiving may not be easy. My wife suggested the ER.
So there might not be much they can do? however, maybe as you said, the abx drops could be prescribed. I think I still have a prednisone or medrol pack I never used plus NSAID meds in my closet. I also have an anti inflamatory the pediatrist gave me, meloxycilin, I think it is called. Maybe I'll see what the health food store has for natural remedies.
I know these doctors will tell me I am wasting my time with the LLMD and I don't want to go through that.
I found out recently that a lot of doctors just let ear infections go and let them run their course. Our pediatrician said this as well.
Can the antibiotics we take cause this!? That is scary.
I was doing a sinus irigation the last few weeks and sometimes I feel it around my ears so maybe I caused some sort of infection that way. Coincidence?

I get ear aches that sometimes don't even last an entire day that come and go.
I think it's a lyme/co-infection thing in many instances.

It's been getting worse over about 4 days. I read, most doctors now allow them to run their course but I am afraid. I picked up Walley's Ear Oil and I thought it started to feel better...but today it is getting worse!
My wife said to go to the ER since we are leaving for a long road trip in two days and will be out of state.
Maybe I caused this myself! I use cotton swabs to clean my ears but I read never use cotton swabs. So, how do you clear out ear wax because I know excess wax can cause pain. Maybe it was the sinus irrigation I use or sinus cleanse - I can hear it going into my ears when I do this.

This was one of my first symptoms also. Right after I became ill, I started having ear problems constantly. Sometimes I feel a fullness in my ears and sometimes I get stabbing pains in them.

What do you do then??? Do you take anything for it?
Could it just be Lyme and co-infections? A result of antibiotics? I am afraid of even bringing this up with a local ENT because I might have to tell them about Lyme treatment! I just want someone to look inside incase something is wrong, but I don't have a fever....although my temp is always low - like 96-97 or so.
I could take tylenol and forget for now....but it is scary, the pain. Maybe it is a result of sinus irrigation.

You should go to the ER> Ear Pain is the WORST and it can get worse fast. I have had some that were excuciating SP<>? It gets better on the right abx and that is not the same as the Lyme or other ABX .. Each one is different and they do have one that can work.. Believe me.. I can try to find the one I got on from the ENT but it did take the really Strong one after them giving me the normal.. And without the drops I would never have gotten rid of it.. OUCH>> I am sorry your hurting... For now warm compresses to the side of the face ear area but nothing In the Ear!!

I ended up seeing a doctor last night and he has a lot of experience in this area and was glad to see I was getting treatment for Lyme. Anyway, he could see it was very red in my ear and appeared to be an infection, most likely from my defenses being down from Lyme, antibiotics killing the good flora, etc. He is confident it is a viral infection. He told me to allow it to run its course and gave me Benzcaine drops and to take Ibuprofen for pain.
It feels better today.

Richie, the first couple of times I took antibiotics, but it kept coming back, so I gave up on treating it. This was before I knew that it was LD. I knew something was wrong, but didn't know what.
It can't hurt to get someone to look in your ears, and see what's going on. If nothing else give you peace of mind that nothing horrid is happening to your ears.
