My son just got LD mid-Oct, I think. New to all this.
I got my son's Infectious Disease MD to give him 3 wks of antibiotics.
We're in Austin,TX, but going to see a LLMD Dec. 8th, Dr. H, in WI.
Should I wait to give him the antibiotics? Will it affect tests with Dr. H on Dec. 8th?

hi Jessi,
While I don't have any first-hand experience in going through Lyme treatment with a child, my first inclination is to say don't delay treatment.
Is there a way that you could call your new LLMD's office and speak with a nurse and ask them for advice?
The antibiotic might not interfere with all of the testing that the new doc will do. And even if it might interfere, I'm sure that any good LLMD could work around the limitations of testing.
For what it's worth, I was able to get quite a bit of co-infection testing done while I was on antibiotics. I was on Doxy at the time and don't know if that made a difference vis-a-vis the testing or not. Don't know if a different antibiotic would have interfered more.
It's more important to try and stop the progression of the disease at this point, in my opinion.
Perhaps some others who have first-hand experience with treating children can chime in.
I'm so sorry to hear about your son. One of the most upsetting aspects of this entire disease for me is the fact that children are being impacted so greatly.
You're a good Mom for being so proactive and insistent on getting help for your little boy.

Antibiotics won't impact most of the testing a LLMD will do. A DNA PCR is the only test that shouldn't be run while on antibiotics....most LLMDs won't bother running a lyme PCR anyway. I'd say you should definitely start treating...

My daughter went to Dr. J after being on abx for 9 months and he still tested her for coinfections and also did another Western Blot. It had more bands than the first one did.
