I have a friend who has had a multi-symptom complex illness for about ten years and was just dx'ed with rmsf by a duck. I thought it was considered a co-infection usually found with lyme????????

It is possible to have RMSF and not have lyme. Likewise, one can have bartonella and not lyme.
It is best to test for ALL the tick borne pathogens, then treat what comes back positive.
Your friend may also want to check for HHV-6, EBV, enterovirus and chlamydia pneumonia. Since she/he has been ill for so long, other things may have reactivated too.

Not sure. I have both but I don't know if I got it from the same tick. I've been bitten hundreds of times...
I do have a friend who had RMSF as a child.. full blown with the rash and everything. She doesn't seem to have symptoms of Lyme that I know of, although she has never been tested.
