Just trying to collect some info because I am looking at other ways to get rid of my babesia (already tried Mepron and lower doses of Malarone)....

I have heard of a few people who say that Bactrim with Biaxin (and I would also add artemisinin) got rid of their babesia. (or at least, they haven't relapsed)

Anyone else?

Or did anyone try this combo, and can say it did NOT eradicate your babesia?

It would be helpful if people can speak specifically about babesia, because Bactrim can also treat lyme and bartonella. So hopefully there is someone who noticed a babesia herx followed by relief of certain symptoms, or can say that their babesia tests went from positive to negative, etc.

(Bear with me, but I may start a similar thread about Artemisinin with Zithromax. I am trying to collect data for myself, but I think this could help others too.)

....As you probably know bactrim/art worked for two of us in this household...adding a macrolide helps of course.

Where mepron/zith did nothing but stave off symptoms the bactrim/art seems to keep them gone for prolonged periods of time.

I can't say forever because that hasn't happened and tuneups now and then seem necessary. Also I don't know which strain of babs we had/have....

Thanks Charlie! [hi]

When you say "tune ups"....are they specifically tune ups for babesia symptoms or moreso just general tune ups where you're not really sure what is surfacing exactly but are treating it? (either way...i'm obviously happy for you)

Where do you think you guys were infected by the way (don't know if we ever talked about this on lymechat)?

Take care, friend! [Smile]

...I dunno what we're tuning up Dev but it seems to need a squirt of bactrim/abx/art combo a few times a year...not a hardship. Could be babs, lyme or any co's...point is that combo covers most everything and isn't hard to tolerate if you can do sulfa.

We got lyme and co's in Wilton CT, or at least reached critical mass there...you can't fly over Wilton CT without getting covered in ticks.

Hoosiers

I've only been on bactrim for 3 weeks and biaxin for 5 months. I went through two bottles of mepron and ran out. The mepron was really hard for me I got super depressed and taxed my liver.

I am starting to feel much better on the bactrim/biaxin BUT I am also doing bicillin too.

I will say the first few days I felt a herx, mostly anxiety and fog. I'd say give bactrim a shot. I think it's working for me, my brain feels more clear in a short amount of time.
