readers have named the broad-spectrum antibiotic Doxycycline ``the single most effective treatment for Lyme disease'' in response to a poll we conducted between Dec. 9, 2007 and Feb. 9, 2008.
Rounding out the Top 3 were Cat's Claw extract and a Venus Flytrap product, Carnivora. Four herbal combinations and three other antibiotics, including Zithromax, turned up in the Top 10.
In a surprisingly busy vote, 3,723 readers responded to the poll. Readers were limited to just one vote per computer. That means people with access to more than one machine, if they chose to, could have voted once from each of them.
In that sense, the survey wasn't strictly scientific. But the vote, in the words of National Lyme Report editor Derek Clontz, ``was an eye-opener if for no other reason than broad-spectrum antibiotics didn't entirely dominate the results.''
Here. according to the NLR poll, are the Top 10 Most Effective Treatments for Lyme disease followed by the number of readers who voted for each one:
1. Doxycycline (622 readers)
2. Cat's Claw Extract (504 readers)
3. Carnivora/Venus Flytrap Extract (477 readers)
4. Zithromax (401 readers)
5. Levaquin (369 readers)
6. 100-Day Protocol with 3% Cat's Claw Extract (345 readers)

Deb, a survey like this is not scientific in any sense. One can draw no meaningful conclusions at all from a "poll" such as this, because it has no parameters, period.

I agree with Dayle Ann. Allowing only one vote per computer also means people on combination therapies, which most LLMD's use, would not be able to include everything they are on.
Seems to be slanted toward those on only one abx, and most of us here know that won't do the trick for us.

Thanks Deb for this and other posts you put up too.
I feel people that were in the survey had a greater interest in results they could actually feel.
Way too many variables in lyme for "scientific" measurement.

In case you don't know: Derek Clontz is the owner of myherbs.net aka Susan's Ambrosino's Herb Club, Inc.
He is merely promoting the products he sells.
The National Lyme Report is merely one big advertisement.

WOW! If I could speak for Wisconsinites, I would have to say doxycycline is the worst and least effective of all abx for Lyme.
In comparing notes with another Lyme resource on the other side of Wisconsin, we believe only about 1/3 of acutely ill Lyme folk recover with doxy, leaving 2/3 to the dogs or the depths of Lymehell.
Here, in this state, where Ehrlichiosis is so common, doxy will save you from dying from that disease. Unfortunately, doctors here think doxy will kill the Lyme too when you are coinfected. What a joke that is!How wrong they are!

You are so right mjo.
Doxy is bacteriostatic so it stops further reproduction but DOES NOT KILL ! That is why lyme comes back after treatment.
Why do so many docs use it ?

Doxy, alone, will also allow for spirochetes to go into cyst form.
