Has anyone else dealt with weight loss in conjunction with Lyme?

In 7 months, I have lost 30 pounds, which is a bit unnerving.

Lol, I know most women WANT to losse weight, and I've had quite a few ask what I'm doing right. i tell them "Not much. I've been sick for 7 months."

I've been through the gastro tests (endoscopy and colonoscopy a year ago, a CT scan of the abdomen and pancreas. All was normal, although there was something that wasn't quite right on the pancreas, but they couldn't actually pinpoint anything.

I also had my gall bladder out in July 2007, abut a year before all this crap started.

So I'm just wondering if this is common, and how much more weight am I going to lose? [puke]

I started at 128lbs. I am 5'7".

I've always been skinny. Prior to children anyways.

In November at my LLMD's office, I weighed in at 94lbs!

He was very upset.

I eat well. At least 3 meals a day.

Hard to put weight on with low carb/no sugar diet.

Plus I am busy running after two young children.

Well, he Rx'd me some periactin.

He was really concerned about my weight.

I think for me babesia is the culprit.

I am now back up to 102lbs with occasional spikes to 105lbs.

My LLMD also took me off my low carb diet with no sugar.

It was wonderful for Christmas. [Smile]

Initially had some mild yeast issues, but not bad at all.

I still am on the diflucan protocol for Lyme so that has helped I am sure.

Worst thing was trying to get used to the taste of sugar again.

I hate to say it, but everything I thought I craved

Like coke icees and such were just too sweet!

I still drink diet sodas with splenda.

However, have branched out to a bowl of ice-cream every now and then.

Don't buy special bread anymore either.

I still use Splenda as a sweetner though.

Plain sugar is just too sweet.

If you haven't addressed babesia, it may be part of the problem.

I also had been on meds for hypothyroid issues.

I stopped them myself due to heart racing issues.

I think I was pushing myself into the hyperthyroid category.

My blood work showed normal thyroid function off of the meds. [shake]

Adrenal fatigue can also contribute to weight loss and inability to put it on.

Hugs,

Geneal

I lost about 25 pounds after I was first diagnosed. I was told at the time that it was common for people to either lose or gain weight.

Now, after 3+ years of treatment, I've put about 10 of those pounds back on.

For those who report weight changes (either direction) - they later report that it levels out after successful treatment.

Getting the right amount of nutrients is the main concern.

I lost lots of weight as well. I lost over 30 lbs now Im about 96 lbs at 5'5. I'll gain a couple of pounds here and there but can't seem to maintain. I do have GI issues as complications though.

I too have lost weight. 18 pounds, down to 110 now, at 5'4". I struggle to try and not loose more. It scares me to imagine getting down below 100.

Me too. I have lost weight during all this. I eat and eat, but don't gain any. I am hoping with treatment that this will improve.

I lost 50 lbs. And then when I did parasite treatment, I gained 7 lbs in the 10 days following...

And have regained about 30 (wahh!!!) in the last 4 yrs since I've been better.

So, it's not always Lyme... just something to think about.

I lose weight whenever I relapse (except when I first got sick I gained weight). However, when I get better I do gain some weight back, was up to 118 lbs last time, feeling good. I couldn't believe that I gained weight on a raw diet, but I was glad. I haven't weighed myself in the last week, but I do think I've gained, I've been feeling better.

Anyhow, please try not to worry I know how frightening it is to lose weight without trying and to have family tell you how skinny you are and always try to push food at you. It's scary.

You will be able to gain it back eventually, just give your body time.

Oh, do you have anxiety issues? That can also contribute as you will burn up calories faster.

Take care,

Ocean
