What is a good starting dose of Epsom Salt to put in the bath if I decide to do it? I'm a bit nervous about these for some reason. I hope it's safe for me.

Seek: I tossed a cup or two in and made the tub pretty darn full. Sometimes I added Baking Soda and/or Hydrogen Peroxide.
I would recommend not going real hot on the water and taking it slow at first. Go ten minutes and work your way up from there. Make sure to rinse off the toxins and maybe do it at night right before you go to bed or before a nap as you may get real fatigued.
I used to make myself herx with very long, hot detox baths (drank herbal teas while in the tub to hydrate and help sweat more) early in my Lyme treatment (not intentionally!).
Then I read this article that titled "Epsom Salts Baths to Reduce Herxheimer Reaction" and at the bottom of the article it said the bath could also CAUSE a herx. The good news is that after the herx I would feel really good for a while.

I read you need to be in the tub for at least 20 minutes for it to have any effect, can't remember where.
I take a bath with Epsom salts, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda. I also add Lavendar oil. I dont' measure, but dump about 1/4 of the carton in each bath, I'd say.

Thanks. My doctor wants me to do them every day!! I hope I don't herx from them or that would be miserable. Posted by UnexpectedIlls (Member # 15144) on :
I take epsom salt baths almost everyday. I am one who HAS to take HOTT HOTT baths... my skin actually gets RED. I never had problems beofre , but since becoming sick these baths make me feel VERY sick.. My heart races, I get very fatigued and dizzy.... I also get VERY itchy skin. I really don't know what the itchy skin is all about? I can do about 20 minutes now, but when I first got sick I could barely do 5 min...

I got severe whole body itching when I first started abx. Started right after I took a shower and dried off. So intense and agonizing, I almost went to the ER. I learned to use only tepid water, no soap, just aveeno, no rubbing. Doing that reduced the itching, and now it is not a regular occurence.
I suspect it is part of herxing, the organism resides in the skin just like other tissues, and something about hot baths or showers just intensifies the herx reaction in the skin. Just my guess.

I have started a detox, with homopathic remedies for ND for the past month. I have felt toxic over the
past year of abx treatment. Stopped the abx while detoxing. Took an epsom salt /baking soda hot bath. Over 30 black specks and 1/4 particles of a
hardened substance were on the4 bottome of the tub after I got out. I took a tweezer to pick them
up, and some broke apart in slivers, like metal. Some were odd shaped, and hard as rocks. It
actually looked like old dental amalgums. Over the years since my youth, I have had over 50 amalgums!
And do remember swollowing the residue in the dentist chair as a child! I have also had many teeth break as an adult
due to old amalgums, and have swallowed my broken tooth with part of the old amalgums!
I collected some in a baggie...would like to know if it is mercruy or a heavy metal? Where can I get this tested?
I've taken these baths before, and never had the black
specks...especially my tub was very clean before
and no other residue could have been there except that came out of me!

I take a epsom salt with baking soda bath every other day.
I have not been able to take a hot bath since I got sick over 22 years a go. Had to be luke warm or I'd get relly sick.
I can now take a hot bath, to the point my skin gets red. I soak for a half hour. So some things are slowly improving!!

Epsom salt baths made my heart pound and I felt like I was going to pass out so my doc told me not to do them.
Later I tried again with less epsom salt and not such hot water and it wasn't as bad.

That's how I felt too for years. It wasn't from epsom salt, it was from very severe heat intolerance.

I get EXACTLY the same thing from the baths, but I do them anyway. When I am done I am short of breath, dizzy, heart pounding; some times are worse than others.
Overall I think I feel a lot better after the Epsom salt baths. I'm all out right now, tough when you can't get out to the store.

My wife takes the baths often.
The herxing for her is based on the temperature.
Sometimes she forces herself to herx by keeping the water as hot as she can stand. She is so week that I have to help her our of the tub and into bed.
After about 30 minutes of rest she usually feels much better than before the bath.
The other times she keeps the water warm instead of hot. She can stay in the tub much longer and is probably doing a better detox job.
Funny thing is that se doesn't feel as good afterward as she does with the hot baths.
Cheers, B

Would soaking feet in an epsom salt bath be a start to gauge how you will react?
