My daughter had been very ill for the past 4 months and she had just started treatment. She did not have any neck pain before.
In the accident, we were at a stop and a big SUV barreled into us. She was in the back seat, leaning forward talking to us. She was jolted forward and then diagonally backwards, hitting her head on the window.
Since then her neck has hurt continously. She became unable to walk in April and has been in a wheelchair since then. The last few months, almost exclusively in bed. Severe wide-spread body pain, primarily neck and legs.
We have been concentrating on the lyme treatment and have only spent about $800 directly on her neck.
Is there any evidence that anyone knows of that an accident like this can exacerbate lyme symptoms? We would like to settle with the insurance company and it is hard to separate out how much is what. My husband is a lawyer, and he is getting help with this, as is it is not his area of practice.
I feel strongly that the accident made my daughter worse and has caused her more pain and suffering.
Any thoughts?

For over 25 years if I am jarred or fall I have symptoms which knock me out for several months. I hope I'm never in a car accident.
I need weekly massages and chiropractic to keep my body functioning. After a fall I need 2-one hour massages a week.

Yes, any kind of stress to the body, whether emotional or physical, definitely can cause lyme/infections to come out/get worse.

Yes, many folks had none specific lyme & co symptoms and then had some trauma such as a car accident that started a downward spiral turn in their health.

I can tell you the reverse equation: my old whiplash injuries never bothered me until I got Lymed!
Lyme is an opportunistic infection. It goes for any weakened part of the body. My neck and an old sprained ankle injury hurt me the most since Lyme. The whiplash occured in 1984; the Lyme started in 2005.
Some people complain that dental work previous to a bite can flare up. A friend with implants put in recently and then contracted Lyme. Her teeth/jaws are now extremely painful.
Go figure.

I don't know if this is evidence per se, but it was a car accident and a case of whiplash that *triggered* my Lyme to go active.
I am a congenital case, didn't know I was infected, health was mostly good, and then the accident. It took about a year for me to become completely disabled from Lyme and co-infections after that.

i had a car accident just like yours and got whiplash. no blood or broken bones. they said i was fine at er.
well...i ended up out of work 1 1/2 yrs , neede cognitive therapy , couldn't be upright for 3 months cuz of vertigo.
i had undx lyme at the time...and after i got dx the llmd said my long recovery (er doc expected me back to work in 4-5 days) was due to lyme
i wasn't really ready to go back to work-and i have never been the same
10 yrs after that i was hit by a kid and given another whiplash-i have been on disability since then
it is sometimes hard to figure out what is head injury and what is lyme...but it is all very disabling
