Added Biaxin to Doxy about 5 days ago. This stuff is nasty! The overwhelming metallic taste is hard to cover even with mints or gum. I wakes me from sleep. Any suggestions for dealing with this?

Also, it is very obvious when this stuff enters the bloodstream almost 2 hours after being taken. Very suddenly my stomach gets upset and I am just on the verge of getting sick. Then the feeling eventually passes and the nasty metallic taste lasts for about 8 more hours.

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with this medication.

Thanks!

Will

I used to be on Biaxin and I also had that awful taste in my mouth. Try drinking more water than you normally do with it and then brush your teeth and tongue afterward. Ask your LLMD about the nausea. That might not be normal. Good luck! [Smile]

I was on biaxin for over one year.

Believe it or not the metallic taste/nasty taste goes away with time.

Mine would wake me up too.

Hugs,

Geneal

Biaxin did leave a horrible metalic taste in my mouth too. Nothing would make it go away.

Ask your LLMD if you can switch to Biaxin XL. For some reason it doesn't taste nearly as bad as the regular Biaxin. I only get a faint metalic taste every now and then when i'm really thirsty or hungry.

Maybe it will be easier on your stomach too since it is an extended release form instead of immediate release like you are taking now.

Good luck.

I took Biaxin for a month. I asked the liquid form. The first week the aftertaste was bad. After that I wsa totally used to it and no issues. I had no stomach issues on it either. It wasn't a bad drug at all for me.

Hi Maybe --

It took me awhile to figure out
what Biaxian tastes most like --

This is what I have come up with -

Put in a Blender about $4 worth
of used Pennies and Dimes--
and then grind till its powdered --

You know those Nasty mop buckets
at your local 7/11 store --

Add a cup of the 7/11 store
bucket water into the Blender--

Next add 5 ounces of Real ripe
fish bait --

Blind till Frothy --

Now comes the Important part --

You Must Strain the mixture
threw a Funnel made of Old Used
apartment carpet --

Now swish around in mouth 24X7 -

Im Prety Sure thats what Biaxin
Tastes like --

-------------------------

Biaxin is most likely the Best single
ABX to use for ALL Tick illnesses--

It works slow but it dose work Good --

If I could Only take One ABX
my choice would be Biaxin --

( it is perty clear now that Combos of ABX are needed in treating and are are the most successful )

I think the Generic Biaxin dose
have worst taste --

The brand DAVA tastes like the juice
described above --

- Jolly Rancher- Hard Candy will get rid
of the taste - works Everytime --
but it only lasts for about a hour --

Each bag has a Assortment of flavors-
I like the Watermelon flavor Best--

Dont eat the BLUE colored candies tho --

Will turn your tongue Bright Blue
for about 3 hours -

-- Looks Tacky -- Jay--

I actually liked biaxin...no noticeable sides and never noticed a strong metallic taste.

I'm on biaxin and i don't feel or taste a thing at all. I'm on the ER tablets (i don't know what that means) and they taste and smell like vanilla.

groovy2...perfect description. exactly how i would have described it. ;-) i will try the jolly ranchers. thanks!

Could the strong metallic taste be attributed to taking the generic version (clarithromycin)???

Yes, I had that horrible taste and it also woke me up at night. It does go away, or at least you don't notice it anymore. It's a great drug try to stick with it.

I took mine with food and took Prilosec while I was on it.

I loved my Biaxin! It really worked well for me.

The metallic taste went away for me for the most part after a few weeks. I noticed that the more I ate when I took it the less metallic taste. And it definately was worse if I woke up at night.

I have taken generic for 8 months and have never experienced any metallic taste.

My daughter experienced the metal taste as well. It was very confusing for us because she gets a "metallic" taste before she seizes, so we had a few false-alarms! We found inserting the pill as far back in the throat as possible and immediately chasing it down w/ water helped, but it still lingered a bit, unfortunately.

The taste goes away after a few weeks.

Taking Biaxin with a some watered down (due to the high sugar content)cranberry juice helps.

Take care!

The stuff was yucky, for sure.
But it sure did make me feel better, after I got past the first herx, all the nausea, and the awful taste.

Ive been on Biaxin XL for over 5 mos and never noticed any severe metallic taste.

As for the nausea, I think thats more the doxy then the Biaxin.

I got something a drink at the health food store one day just because I was thristy.

It was called komanchu or something like that. They had different flavors.

I learned I did not like the drink. But, it worked great to take a sip of it to get the taste of biaxin out of my mouth.

I also would brush my teeth to help at time.

I am out of biaxin right now and have been lowerer functioning because of it so miss it.

But, must admit I dont' miss the taste it left in my mouth.

I also am sleeping through the night now and am not sure if it is because i am no longer taking biaxin or if it is because is started on the glycine and melatonin drops.

Groovy, that was your usual verbal work of art!

My Biaxin comes with a vanilla coating that's quite pleasant.

I don't recall a metallic taste, but I expected there would be.
