I took it for a month - same dose as you. I think it helped a bit, but I took it with Biaxin (1,000 mg day). My neck REALLY hurt for 2 days, then it went away. It's no miracle like Dr. B states it was for him, but more tolerable than others I tried. Posted by CherylSue (Member # 13077) on :
I took it for a few months this summer/fall. It was one of the easier drugs to tolerate, not like zith. It wasn't a miracle drug, but I think it helped a little. I like doxycyline, too.

I was on week 5ish but recently taken off for a week or so.
Before seeing an LLMD and finally labeled "chronic" I had tested positive for LD three separate times and was given doxy (21 days) Honestly liked Doxy better. I felt improvements immediately each time.
With Ceftin the first week I was much worse. Things got better and then recently I started getting my symptons back a little.
As of Monday my LLMD took me off for a week. I was having heart attack feelings which he says is actually my esophagus since my EKG came back okay (LD has affected my heart in the past), Apparently the antis can cause this problem. I am taking medicine now for that.
I am on day 3 with out any anits and I am definetly feeling the soreness coming back.

Ceftin is one of my favorite antibiotics, if there is such a thing. It helps my brain/cognitive issues and energy. It also helps my pain.
I was on the same dose as you for a month.
My probiotics are Jarro Dophilus EPS and Primal Defense.

Seems this Drug is one of the least talked about yet according to the world famous Dr B and a few others it is really supposed to work.

I've been on Ceftin for nearly eight weeks. (Have also been on Bactrim and zith.)
Not much herx reaction when adding Ceftin.
The the week before Christmas, I had a really good neuro week. I actually could read a book!!!!
And then I crashed hard--doesn't feel like herx, just bad Lyme and co's.
My LLMD is switching up my meds. I dropping the Ceftin, zith, and Bactrim, and adding in Flagyl, Levaquin, and IM Bicillin LA.
Ceftin and company just wasn't doing anything much for me.

Hi Eric,
I was on Ceftin for about 8 wks. I really liked it, except that my liver numbers went up, so my LLMD switched me to Doxy(hate Doxy). I have been off of abx for about 8 wks now.
The Ceftin gave me a lot of needed energy in fact while on the Ceftin I had many great days.
I have been on Zith the whole time and really like it for the cognitive and neuro symptoms.
I think ever case is very individualized, so it's important to work closely with your LLMD and have open, honest communication.

curious to know why you dont change the meds then ?
what exact symptomps is it not helping you with ?
does yout llmd know that you're not making any progress with it ?

Although it's not used as much for adults, it's the starting point for any kid that is allergic to penicillin related abx. (young kids cannot take any of the 'cycline' drugs)
So for our kid experience...
First, in it's liquid form, it tastes yucky, but not as yucky as other meds, (like zith). This is an issue if you child is inclined towards spitting yucky meds out.
For our child, it alone did very little. With another abx added in, the progression of lyme seemed to slow down, but it did not stop. there is no way to say if things would have been better or worse, if a different med had been used.
I can say that some of our child's worst sxs happened when he was on ceftin (ocd, physical aggression, yelling, joint pain, too tired to walk, stomach pain, gi issues, ect) But it was also his first med. And, most important, with time and different abx, all of those symptoms have gone away.
As someone noted above, every person's clinical picture is different, so what works for each person will vary.

You guys are taking pretty low doses. Those are the doses a GP would prescribe...useless for Lyme I would think.
I have spoken to 2 patients of Dr. B who used Ceftin and they used 2000mg - 3000mg per day.
Like with Amoxicillin, I thought it didn't do much til I went from 3000mg a day to 4.5 mg a day with Probenecid 1500mg...then it worked.
Helping to control it is fine but if you want to be rid of Lyme, I'd go high dose...from everything I have heard and read.

I am just ending about 8 weeks of Ceftin and I thought it was great. I hadn't felt that good in a while...dare I say normal?
It took away my flu like symptoms, headaches, and cleared up my cognitive functioning. I liked that I could take it with or without food and never caused an upset stomach. (Unlike Doxy) I was taking 500mg twice a day.
I think I have plateaued so I am getting ready to move onto Zithromax next.
