Hi,

Does anyone have any tips on determining if what one experiences is a herx? I have been taking doxy and biaxin and am not sure what to look for other than increased symptoms or maybe new symptoms, or even old symptoms popping up? Does this sound right?

Today I feel dizzy, light headed, out of it, shaky and my right foot and left arm are killing me. My right foot feels like I have a frozen foot, icy cold pain.

I had what I think was a major herx over the last few days with all kinds of old symptoms and some new and frightening ones. Today I feel much better, so that's my guide. any thoughts?
Good luck

Sounds logical to me, cuffee!

Rich.. If you feel better when backing off the meds for a day or two, then it's a herx. Maybe your dr doesn't subscribe to that plan though.

Worked well for me.

My main symptom was enormous fatigue -- I felt like I was 100 years old and just wanted to sit in a chair and read. Someone said "cemented to the bed."

There was dizziness and other transient symptoms too -- pain in my feet, but the main one was the "down for the count" ---for me anyway.

This was my first treatment -- I was on Doxycycline 200 mg. 2xday and the "herx" hit about three or four days after I started and stayed for about a week or two.

Thanks all,

From talking to previous patients and my doctor, a lot of people do not herx and just slowly get better over time. I thought if you back off meds for a few days, that can be bad because you have a drop in abx in the blood and some meds require a constant level in the blood or tissue. Although we will cycle Flagyl and I don't know if that is all about herxes or if it has bad side effects.

This is an interesting thread since I have been wondering about what is herx, what is Lyme, etc.

To complicate this -- Azithro. was added to my doxy at the same time I came down with a bad cold -- toddler and family visit for holidays [Smile]

I know lots of the symptoms were cold since other family members got it - my husband has the cold.

But my herx was an intense violent coughing from the first day (about two days after starting the Az.)

I saw my LLMD and asked her about all the symptoms. She thought definitely the coughing was from the Lyme herx - she said "it often settles in the lungs"

She listened to my chest and the lungs were ok - just rattling from the bronchi.

So my husband is clearing his cold - and I still am coughing 12 days later. Definitely not the same as what he has.

that said.... who really knows????? [Smile]
