I have read many times that methylcobalamin is the preferred form of B-12.
I understand that methylcobalamin is easier to absorb.
I am currently taking Cyanocobalamin injections. I take for cc's a week (2 injections)
The normal range of Vitamin B12 is 150-800 pg/mL. (what ever the pg means)
My level is 1634 pg/mL.
I am not sure I need something with better absorbtion.
Does anyone taking the Methyl version know what their levels are?
How high can they get?
Thanks, Bill

Why on earth are you supplementing with a level that high? You're WAY above normal. Obviously, absorption must be great!

How much is each dose? Normally it's 1 cc per week.

This is an issue I'm facing right now. Do I really need to go through a specialty compounding pharmacy to get the B12 and Magnesium, or is conventional varieties just fine?

My doctor was not concerned by my levels. I take 2 cc's twice a week. He said it was nothing to be concerned about.
When I read other people stating that you should only use the methyl form, I got confused.
I see read that many other people take 1 cc of the methyl version a day.
I don't know if my body just absorbs better but it sure is cheaper for me.
For my insurance, anything we had coumpounded is at least a $30 co pay.
A 30 ml bottle of cyancobalamin only costs me $10. Without insurance I think it was only about $20.
I was just wondering if anyone else knew what their levels were and why I would need the methyl form.
Thanks, B

heck, I just take the sublingual and am doing. Cheap & works fine for me.
One of my LLMDs said the injections with the methylcobalamin doesn't absorb well, when I asked if I should have them. I have Lyme with MS type symptoms.
He may have been mixing up the two forms but he said to try the under tongue first which is Cyanocobalamin.
My B-12 levels are/have been very good since.

Here's what I use. It seems to help. I did lots of my own (B-12/magnesium) shots years ago and there is not a patch on my thighs left that is not sore - so I do the sublingual.
