Why do I feel worse when I should be getting better???
I have been on Doxy for 4.5 days, today I woke up even more sore than normal, SUPER tired and pukey face!
Is it the Doxy? I know it can cause nausea? Should I call the doc? Don't want to seem whiney...
Thanks!

Its possible you're herxing from the doxy. Do a search of herxing to determine if thats what youre going through.
Its not unusual to feel worse before feeling better. If your body cant handle the toxin load, you're going to feel worse as your body struggles to detox. Its also possible that you're having a reaction to the meds as well. Doxy can really make you feel nauseous (and avoid sunlight completely).
There are things that will make the process better and worse, so research herxing to see if you can do different things (like drink more water, rest, eat right, etc..avoid stress, avoid sugars, etc.)

Hi Erika,
So sorry you are feeling so badly.
It sounds like you may be having a herx reaction.
This is very common in Lyme Disease.
Try to drink lots of lemon water and take a lot of hot baths with epson salts etc... You can search here on this site for detoxing ideas. Click on the search feature up a bove and just type detox or detoxing up in the search area.
When the spirochete is being killed by the antibiotic, it realeses toxins and your body needs to rid them hence the detoxing is very important.
Good luck! PS if you are really concerned it is from the antibiotic itself I would call your LLMD.

It sounds like herxing. You get a herx reaction from the die off of Bb spirochetes. Herxing exaggerates your Lyme symptoms so you can feel really bad. The die off is a good thing. Hang in there!

Nausea has been my worst symptom, particularly during a herxheimer reaction. However, you are right that doxy can cause nausea in many people.
If you are feeling nausea 24/7, it is likely a herxheimer reaction. If you are feeling nausea only about 30-90 minutes after taking the doxy, it is likely the doxy making you feel sick.

Nausea has been a biggie for me all along, today was just 100 time worse...
The other question I have is,
I have a peptic ulcer (a doozey, from all the motrin I used to take (i;m guessing) for my joint pain and severe back pain...
Do any of you know whather Doxy will affect an ulcer??
I know it can cause esophegous ulcers, but I didn't know how it affected a stomach ulcer?
Also does anyone know if Lyme can have anything to do with my ulcer?
My PCP and GI says its just from Motrin, but I didn't really take all that much so I don't know if I believe them!
Thanks Everyone! Posted by Lymeorsomething (Member # 16359) on :
It's strange but I've never had nausea on any of the antibiotics. However, I have recently gotten somewhat worse since starting mepron/zith (6 weeks in). It feels like all my primary symptoms (fatigue/endocrine issues) have gotten magnified... Still not sure if it's a herx as I have not come out of the tunnel yet.

Definitely sounds like a herx........but......
I do hope you're taking your doxy with plenty of FOOD!!! It is very caustic. You may need to get a med for Doryx instead of doxy.
It is a brand name for doxy and is much easier on the stomach. However, it's rather pricey. If it will save your stomach, it may be worth it to you though. It was to ME!
