When I take Bactrim, within 5-6 hours i feel horrendous, like a herx I guess. Horrible headache, achey and flu-like.....skin gets hot to the touch, etc.
And one of the things that happens is my eyes get super bloodshot (the whites become pinkish red) and they get squinty. And they also sting, like they were exposed to chlorine really badly.
Is this my eyes getting dry? Or is it part of a herx? Or is it an allergic reaction to the med?

I think it is a herx.
This happened with my husband on zithromax- oh and later on minocycline. Blood shot eyes and his eyes were squinty like when you make a cat smell citrus...weird!

Yeah, they sting really badly...I think I just need to whine, but it is creepy to look at myself in the mirror.
My head is about to explode.
This is insane!
I am baffled how I could take Mino and Zithro and not have this, and yet Bactrim does this to me! And yet, others will take Bactrim and be fine!
My husband said to me, "I think it's from the Bactrim honey....."
And I got really mad and yelled at him, telling him thanks for the understatement of the year.

This is the first drug that I have ever really herxed like this on. I sort of doubt I even knew what herxing was until I took this drug.

I know...he just went to buy me lemons so I can drink lemon water, and straws so I don't damage my teeth.....he definitely deserves a kiss!!!!
And he can't watch TV with sound b/c it hurts my head. Poor guy!

Since I am not having any sweats from this, I was assuming it was Lyme or Bart being killed. But who knows.

Pink eyes is a lyme symptom, I think you are killing lyme, bart and babs at the same time. Thus that herx! I felt DEAD on bactrim, it was like being on IV-meds. Sooooo tuff. I would say I herxed like on Primaxin with Bactrim. Had to take a break, the herxing got so bad.
Don't know about intolerance, from what I have read you get skin-symptoms or trouble breathing from intolerance.

I have the red and painful eyes. Sometimes it is worse than others and onset can be caused by any ABX. I think it's a good sign that the bacterium is dying off.
When was first diagnosed and took my first dose of ABX, the pain in my eyes where so bad that I sat on the sofa and screamed and cried!!! I never felt anything like it in my life!

My doc told me Bactrim kills babs (also bart). He got rid of my babs with it. I never had any babs symptoms--no sweats, etc. But, I tested positive for both babs and bart through Igenex.
So, I just think of Bactrim as the drug that primarily kills babs.

Eye symptoms discussed above herx or abx side effect? If you read the side effects of trimethoprim, ingredient in bactrim, eye dryness is one of them. I'm having it big time, not sure what to do.
