Or is the saliva one the only one worth bothering about?

There's also the 24 hr urine collection test for the same. It's a pretty reliable test.

I don't know much about the blood test for it. I did have the blood test as a follow up later.

I prefer the saliva test to the blood test because you can get a reading on the fluctuations throughout the day. I also understand that it tells you more about the bioavailablity of the hormones than the blood test. I don't know much about the urine test.

My dr switched from using the saliva test to using the 24 hr urine collection. Must be a reason why.

One year ago I had the saliva test which showed that I was low in cortisol at 8 am and 8 pm but it was normal at noon.

My new doc who used to do the saliva test himself in the past doesn't believe in its reliability anymore and he ordered a blood test. The blood was taken at noon and the test came back normal.

Still, I'm convinced that my cortisol is too low and I'm going to have the 24h urine test now, soon. It's considered as the gold standard.

But judging from the way I feel I think the saliva test was correct. Hopefully, I will know more, soon.

Gabrielle
