well i'm still suffering. the coughing is the worst, lots of crud. still no fever, just weak and tired., no appetite. mainly chest pain and cough tho.
does having lyme make getting a cold/flu/etc., worse than a normal person?
i don't understand how i got it, because if you're already on antibiotics, you should be protected, right?
i'm trying everything i can get my hands on, hot showers, zicam, water, vicks, etc., nothing works.
ugh, i hate this.

These are viral infections. Abx do nothing against viral issues. Posted by AZURE WISH (Member # 804) on :
A cold will make my lyme symptoms worse.
Hope you feel better soon. Posted by map1131 (Member # 2022) on :
Everytime I start with sx of cold or something that might be flu-like (hard to tell when you've had the flu for 10 yrs?), I turn on my dear old rife friend.
I use my rife for everyday common virus stuff also. It can stop a cold or flu virus.
It's strange because I can ran it in morning and sx will disappear for about 8 hrs and then they start again. I ran it again in the evening.
I usually have to run it 2 times a day for 2 days and then the virus is done.

From what I understand having Lyme makes it harder for our bodies to fight off other infections. Therefore it does take longer for us to heal after viruses. And to make things worse, Lyme tends to flare when our bodies are under any additional stress so yes we can feel sicker than others.
As seek said, antibiotics do not protect you from viruses, they are only effective against bacteria.
One comfort to take, you are on Biaxin or Zithromax right? I seem to remember that from another post about your cold. Anyways, those drugs would be used to treat pneumonia so that's one less thing for you to worry about.
Hang in there Randibear. Get lots of rest and extra fluids. Cool mist vaporizer might help thin the mucus, sooth your cough, and open up your airway. If you don't have one of those, sit in your bathroom and breath in the shower steam.
Hope you feel better soon! Sending you a hug:)

One more thing, when you get better ask your LLMD if he recommends any supplements for immune support. My doc recommended Host Defense for me. I take it every day since I work with little children and am exposed to every illness in the Ohio valley! And I wash my hands literally a million times a day. That's another good way to prevent illness.

I start using Zicam (Nasal)Gel Swabs at the very first sign of a cold...that little scratch in the back of my throat.
I use it every 4 hours as directed and it works really well for me. My symptoms do not get worse and my symptoms are all gone in 3-4 days.

Well, I have had Lyme since 93. Never had treatment.
I use to get a lot of sinus trouble/colds.
Then I had a period of like 8 years of never getting sick. A few times I got a mild sore throat, nothing major.
Then this past week I got hit with a virus. It even made the news here. Spreading airbourne, and it put me on my a$$!!
Like literally, I was sleeping in the bathroom with a pillow.
I think it affects us all diff in my opinion.
Some people out here say they gety sick all the time, others don't.
I do think that when you do get sick, it makes other symptoms flare up worse though!

Randibear,
I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad and hope you start feeling better qucikly.
I really like green tea with Echinecea and really boost your probiotics and hot baths with lemon water.

There is some antivirals you can take at the first sign of a cold or flu. Antibiotics will do nothing for colds and flus.
Personally i take Takuna from nutramedix. It has seemed to help me not get a lot of colds i should have gotten. Then there is things like elderberry and echinecea. But ytou have to be sure to take them at the first sign of the cold.
Other things that help are cold eeze and zicam.
I also take host defense.
Hope this helps.

This past weekend I was just exhausted. I didn't feel at all like I was comming down with the flue or a cold.
In the middle of the night, I started vomiting. I dehydrated, and my lungs filled with fluid within hours.
I went to urgent care in the morning, got hooked up to two IVs of fluid and an anti-nausia shot.
My lungs showed that I had a blotch, which they assumed was pneumonia. He put me on a Z-pack.
I thought that was funny. I've been on Biaxin for the past six months, and the six months prior to that, I was on zith!
AND I STILL GOT PNEUMONIA!

i've tried the hot shower with steam, zicam, vicks on chest, leaning over boiling water, sudefed, nyquil, tons of kleenex, and am using immune support that i got at gnc.
so yes, i'm doing everything, it's going to have to run it's course i guess.

Yes, unfortunately it's probably viral and has to run its course.
I've never found anything that really helps a whole lot either.
Funny thing for me is that in the day or so before I get sick, and through the worst of the illness, my Lyme symptoms don't seem to bother me as much.
But as soon as the illness starts losing its grip, my Lyme symptoms start flaring. Is that weird or what?
I'm going through that right now.
I have a cold or something, and my Lyme symptoms haven't been as bad.
Now it feels like it's letting go, and today I'm short of breath and my eyes are all funny again.

Randi,
Have you tried Mucinex? It loosens the mucus that causes chest & nasal congestion. It also works as a cough suppressant.

Starfall,
My experience has been exactly the same. Been sick twice in the past month and both times fought it off with few if ant LYME sypmtons and at the end of the illness lots of stuff crept back in..within a few days though they diminshed.
