I have this, but it is much less with treatment. For me it sounds like when you step on a bug and you hear that crunching sound.
It's referred to as crepitation and can be caused by the presence of gas or air trapped in subcutaneous tissue. Does this ring true? One explanation anyway.

i have it in my neck area...
my mri showed 3 herniated discs.
also my bones crack here and there all over at the joints areas, i always thought that was not too bad or to be kinda normal from age...
but the stiff neck with those sounds was not a good thing or an easy one to live with, so i had it checked out.
hope this helps.
best regards, eric

I don't get the glass breaking sound, but sometimes my jaw racks so loud it sounds like a gunshot in my ear.
I can't believe people around me don't hear it!
I also have trouble with ear popping, vertigo and vision problems.

Hello,
My symptoms are the following:
1. Ringing Ears ( Hate this ... hope this one will go away first ).
2. Glass breaking noise of upper neck when I move it ( I can hear it from inside the body )
3. When I move my neck I also hear popping sound. But not bone popping sound. Strange sound. Like you step on something like glass or breaking of dry wood.
4. Started treament last week. Now have pain in Palms.
6. Used to get Muscle twiching. now ok.
7. Major muscle pain in Neck and all back ( Lower and Upper )
8. Eyes twitch only when I read very close. Maybe that's normal. Don't know.. ( Don't know what's normal anymore )
I was hoping if someone knows the medial reason the Lyme causes this breaking sounds and rininging ears ?
I know people say inflamation... But I was wondering if someone had a bit more medical explaination ?
Thanks again for the help,
Sean.

How about a chiropractic explanation ?
Bones should move pretty freely within their normal ranges of motion. They should move in concert with each other.
IME if someone has had an accident then the body protects itself by decreasing movement of one or more of the bones.
After a while some other bones in the area compensate by moving too easily. Then these may get stuck a little and then release with a crunch or sound when you move.
So your spine is "adjusting" itself at times. And actually adjusting the hypermobile segments and not the ones that are really stuck.
Can also happen with shoulder blades, knees, ribs etc.

If I lean the backs of my arms down on a hard surface and move my arms back and forth, my muscles and tendons make a crunching noise. I never had this noise before LYME. You know the spot, anywhere below the elbows....

It's not my shoulder bones or joints that crack but I have hundreds of tiny bubble knots stacked on top of each other that when massaged, sound like bubble wrap popping.
I didn't know that's what it was until two years ago when I started getting a massage. I just knew my muscles in my upper back hurt all the time.
Some of these knots or whatever they are, are close to the upper shoulder blade. They do feel like glass breaking when I reach back and pop them.
They are there all the time (just a bit less after an hour massage) and cause my worst pain.
I'm not sure if they are toxins, my lymph not draining fast enough or from being allergic to everything.
They are definitely not the standard pressure points or tender points you hear doctors talk about. Not in my case.
Someone on here a long time ago said they had the bubble-wrap type knots but I forgot who it was.
I'll just be glad when they are gone!

It is not hairs in your ears that transmit signals. There is a thin membrane that separates the inner and outer ear.
There are three very small bones on the inside. Sound waves make the membrane vibrate and then that signal is passed to the bones and then the nervous system.

Well I guess the actual anatomy isn't really important.

My neck is really stiff, and it wants to pull to the left, especially when I'm lying down on my back. When I roll, lean, or tilt my head, I hear the snapping and popping noises in my neck. (My neck MRI & X-Ray shows normal middle aged wear and tear.)

could it be tendons causing noise when they rub over one another or as they move over the shoulder bones?
inflamed tendons do just that.
i am always poppling in my shoulders and in elbows. i cannot seem to get my strength back in teh shoulders very easily. when i take time off from exercising them, i get more popping and soreness. it is making me crazy!
