i got diagnosed in late august... i had symptoms for month before diagnosis.. anyway, for the past month, my mother has been experiencing what she explains as a "rocking" feeling.. its not really dizziness..she feels like her body is rocking back and forth.. her ears also sometimes feel "full"..this comes and goes...

tomorrow she is going for an MRI and she is getting a vertigo type test from the ENT.. anyways, the reason i write this is because I have seen people who have had vertigo issues and later find out its lyme..

is there anyway she can get tested through Igenex without going to an LLMD? I feel it is dumb to get a regular lyme test if we want to know the truth..

Yes, you can order one from the website and have your pcp draw the blood. You will have to do it at the beginning of the week.

Im not inferring that your Mom doesnt get tested, however, I would exhaust all avenues within your PCP, HMO plan first before going for the igenex tests, simply for cost reasons.

You dont mention if your Mom has any other symptoms besides the rocking...aka..vertigo?..sensations.

I think most lymies like myself would say that if vertigo is the only symptom, its probably not lyme. Lyme hits sooooo many areas in the body that other oddities pop up, come and come, and slowly over time makes your life miserable. Things such as flu like symptoms, achey joints, headaches, CNS problems, memory, cognitive, fevers, chills, arthritis, ibs, eye problems, anxiety, etc, etc..

But its your call, your money, and who knows, maybe you're finding it early before it gets to the advanced stages.

Just thinking out loud and helping you save some money (in this era, thats a good thing...)

Good luck...!

Wimenin - "I think most lymies like myself would say that if vertigo is the only symptom, its probably not lyme." NOT TRUE.

Some people can have lyme but only have a few symptoms. I'm not one of the lucky ones who only has a few symptoms, but I know of people with lyme with only a few symptoms.

When I first went downhill and then started on the standard of Doxy for tx, I had the rocking back and forth sensation. It was awful. I could be sitting still or even laying down and I still felt like I was on a boat rocking back and forth.

i agree, some have only one symptom in the beginning but it will progress.

my mother died of lyme, i'm sure. please don't wait.

unfortunately my pcp here in texas would not send my blood to igenex, he went with western blot, which in my opinion is useless.

get the test, you have nothing to loose....and a mother to gain...

I had my Mom tested. While not CDC positive,

She had many Lyme specific bands.

She refuses treatment though. [Frown]

In my humble opinion, the money spent is worth the knowledge of yea or nay.

Hugs,

Geneal

I'm not trying to battle with anyone...and maybe its semantics...but...

Only one symptom..and that leads you to lyme?

Why?

If you went to a doctor and said, I have a single symptom, and I suspect lyme, they would probably ask you a series of questions about why you suspect lyme, right?

Since lyme is a clinical diagnosis, if you look at the standard questions the LLMD would ask you, how would one symptom, out of 30, 50, 70 symptoms lead you to lyme? (Unless its a bullseye rash, severe headache=enceph/menin, horrible joint pain, etc.)

Im not saying its not possible to have just one symptom with lyme at the start, Im saying in everything I've ever read, researched, studied, heard from other lyme patients, doctors, ... I don't ever recall anything about a lyme patient having just one single symptom as theyve battled lyme.

Am I wrong? If so, thats ok, just let me know. Im always learning more about this rotten disease, and given how Ive had soooo many symptoms, Im curious as to how many people here have had only one symptom.

Obviously its better to be safe then sorry, but given the costs of the testing, it just seems prudent to exhaust other possibilites first before narrowing in on lyme...unless there are more then just one symptom. Right? Wrong?

Your thoughts?
