I wrote before that my husband is having some Lyme-like symptoms. Well, Thursday night around 4 am I was up with air hunger issues. He got up and came into the room where I was sitting on the couch and asked if I was OK.
Then he went to use the restroom. He looked/acted/sounded completely normal. As I was sitting on the couch I heard a big 'thump thump' and the sound of the metal curtain rod hitting the tile floor.
I ran in (as fast as I could anyhow) to him laying in the bathtub, eyes closed, legs hanging over the side of the tub. I started talking to him and he woke up.
I got a spoonful of molasses and fed to him (he is type one diabetic). Then checked his sugar, which was 277. So it was NOT due to blood sugar. He's never passed out before.
He went to bed (that man is a typical guy and won't go to a hospital unless he HAS to), and in the am kept feeling like he was going to pass out.
CT scan normal, bloodwork (CBC, Thyroid) normal besides blood sugar, x-rays normal. They gave him a 24 hour Holter monitor and he will speak with the Cardiologist next Friday.
We've been talking a lot lately about the possiblity of Lyme. I know that Lou's daughter also passed out recently, and she has Lyme.

Yes, I have had dizzy spells, brain zaps, and two episodes where I felt like I was passing out so I got on the floor. It passed before I totally lost consiousness. Near syncope they call it. So I would say yes, a Lyme symptom.

I'm glad he wasn't injured hitting the tub!
I've had a similar experience in the middle of the night. Passed out cold, and husband woke to hear the THUMP - came in and found me on the floor.
LLMD attributes it to getting up too quickly from a horizontal position, and to POTS. I developed POTS as a result of Lyme.

Maybe ask the cardiologist to do a Tilt table test.
Sugar of 277 in the middle of the night??!!

Yrs ago,before being dx, I had severe air hunger that was constant. I was calling an ambulance once a week because I was almost passing out.
I was walking around with a b/p of 70/50. If you suspect Lyme, I would have him tested. Air hunger is a symptom of babs. Sending your husband good thoughts.

I get vagal episodes where I get up, get dizzy, get shaky and the next thing I know I am on the floor.
2 seconds later I am looking at the ceiling, no side effects.

Yes. It was my first "symptom'--led to a trip to my MD & after many tests (brain & brain stem MRI & heart test & blood work and Pet Scan of lungs, etc & 2 months of excluding everything else that could be going on, i was diagnosed with LD. My Doc called it a "not atypical form of atypical lyme".
I was watching tv, got up to go to the kitchen & next thing i remember i was face up on the floor. For some period of time (seconds??) i honestly didn't know what i was, not who, but what. I knew i was alive, but couldn't grasp where i was, who i was or even what i was. Then it started to come back to me. After a few minutes, i realized the back of my head hurt, my neck hurt & i had passed out. (Btw, someplace i read that LD can lower blood pressure--i have always thought thats what did it).
I got up, walked to kitchen--went back to the couch & watched the rest of the 2006 Orange Bowl (Penn St vs Fla. St--Penn St won in OT). Next day i called my Doc & the LD journey began
For 6--10 months after that i had dizzy moments--then they passed & thank God i haven't had anything like that in past 3 years.
Had many other neuro type symptoms over past 3 plus years---burning skin--muscle twitches--floaters in my eyes--sometimes shakiness, hyper-sensitivity to sound (that 1 went away after 8-10 months of treatment).
Been treated with Doxy, Flagyl---Doxy & Alinia---Ceftin & Alinia & currently Ceftin & Diflucan and in all cases multi vitamins, lots of Vit. c, & various supplements. Also had 4 months of Mepron & Biaxin for babesia.

Yes, he is the worst diabetic possible!! When I was in nursing school, I really started hassling him about taking care of himself. He tried for awhile, but... then just quit. I try to daily remind him to check his sugars, I give him his morning shot a lot of times.
He's FINALLY going to ask about getting an insulin pump! I've been begging him to get one for 4 years now!
His sugar was up to 330 in the ER. He can go up to 500 and he'll have muscle aches and nausea, but other than that, it doesn't faze him, it's the lows that make him feel really crappy.
Maybe it could be from Lyme (if he does have it), the syncope, I don't know. I do want him to be tested asap. He will be accompanying me on my LLMD appointment next month as well.
Yes, I hate air hunger. And I rarely ever get it anymore. Last time I had it was last July 2008. I always just constantly yawn. My mom told me it's from hormones and I think about it too much. Funny how I 'thought' about it today, but didn't have it! Mine only lasts about 2 days. I did have it constantly my senior year in high school though, but didn't know what was wrong (dr said 'anxiety').
Well, I will certainly keep you updated on his Lyme status. I'm hoping he doesn't have it, but if he does and can get well, then all the better!
