I've been having pain in the roots of my teeth, and luckily I thought to mention the cholestyramine to my dentist. He told me to drink the cholestyramine through a straw so it doesn't touch the teeth. It is acidic, and will wear away at the enamel. Another option is to rinse with baking soda water afterward. Rinsing with plain water does not work.

I'm glad I found this out after only a month of using it. I wish either the package insert or my doctor had told me how to avoid problems. The package insert warned about the enamel wearing, but I thought rinsing with water was enough.

It is because it is acidic.
