Have you had your adrenals checked?
I did a 24 hour adrenal panel that showed exactly why I feel that way - it was great validation.
And even better - getting on adrenal support has made a huge difference in my days.

Maybe time to do that again.

Yes,
When I wake up, I feel horrible for the whole day! probably around 9PM I feel a little better, maybe its because I know I'm going to bed!

I'm exactly like that.
Yes, the last adrenal test showed I was too low in the morning and too high at night, and I just redid it and am awaiting results.
An acupuncturist I saw years ago said in Chinese medicine that the liver detoxes during the night, so people who have toxins (like me!) wake up feeling worse in the morning. That seems to be really true for me when I attempt to detox or take something I don't tolerate, I'm a mess early in the day but by evening I'm practically back to decent energy.

I also experience this. Feeling better at night, its hard to go to bed as its such a good feeling to have symptoms ease up. Then I stay up to late.I just sent my adrenal tests into the lab. I would think we would all have adrenal problems dealing with chronic illness and other stresses.

What is the key--to add some cortef or something in the AM, and Seriphos (which I already take before bed) to lower in PM so you don't wake up?

I also have adrenal problems where they are low in the morning and high at night and I am looking for help as far as what supplements are recommended? I went to a ND and all he prescribed to me was vitamin C and another doc put me on Cortef but nothing seems to help. I have trouble getting out of bed before 2pm and then at night have a tough time going to sleep and then staying asleep.

Our adrenal glands start secreting cortisol around 4 am. Levels of cortisol are highest in the mornings and fall during the day. It's part of our circadian rhythm. If levels are low in the mornings you will feel really horrrible and a little better in the evenings as that is when levels are normally lower.
The adrenal glands secrete cortisol when they get the message from the pituitary gland by way of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone). If you have a problem with the pituitary gland sending the message it's secondary adrenal insufficiency ----the problem is the pituitary gland. If the adrenal gland itself is damaged and can't secrete it's primary adrenal insufficiency.---the problem is the adrenal glands. The hypothalmus(that's just an area of the brain) first senses when our body needs cortisol and sends the message to the pituitary gland which in turns sends it to the adrenal glands. That's the HPA axis. Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal.
You need to have a cortisol level and an ACTH level drawn. The ACTH level checks on the pituitary. Cortisol keeps our bodies in a state of homeostasis. It's a stress hormone but that means any stresses----fever, heat, cold, grief, pain.

I have this issue, in spades. I feel horrendous, like I'm dying (lately) for most of the day. Around 9-11 pm, it often eases up. I hate going to sleep, because I've gotten to expect waking up really rough again.
I've tried to search for this issue. The closest I found was Virginia Sherr's story....her daily cycle resembles mine.
My adrenals, etc, have all been checked.

Michael did you see an endocrinologist? Did your cortisol get drawn in the am. Do you recall the level? I had a tough time getting my adrenal problem diagnosed. Have you had the cortrosyn stimulation test done?

Hi ZIl,
Yes, I did see an endocrinologist (UCLA). Had the morning cortisol done. 2 x. And a urine sample. I'd had a few random cortisols before, they were usually a bit high.
I don't recall the levels, but were very normal. It was all a few months before my lyme diagnosis--I actually REALLY thought I must have an endocrine issue because of my symptoms.
I didnt have the stimulation test.
You know, my 'cycles' change over time. I've been trying different abx and other stuff--having a hell of a time tolerating things right now. I've had time periods where the days were easier and the nights are tough. But since starting treatments, it seems to have settled into this.
My doc (Dr. H in CA) thinks I'm way toxic and that babesia is working me over. I can feel pretty okay going to sleep, and lately waking up with worse than normal night sweats and feeling awful and hour or so later. If that happens, the next day is usually very rough--at least until the later evening.

yes i feel the best, if i can say best, late at nite, the mornings and most of the day are more than terrible, always feel like death when i wake up, even after just an hour of sleep, soaked and shivering and feel like i have been run over by a truck! how cruel that sleep would make us feel this much worse! A normal cortisol level can be indeterminate and a stim test is needed to really know. A regular cortrosyn stimulation test can miss a pituitary problem. I flew to LA and saw the Dr at this site goodhormonehealth.com. He's helped a lot of people.
