Is there any reason why the doc would pick flagyl over tindimax??
AND...why is it given in a combo form such as biaxin/flagyl or biaxin/tindimax since I've done a search and some patients are taking biaxin/plaquenil?
Thanks everyone!!

Certain abx cause more cysts to form, so when paired with a cyst buster, they are more effective. Everyone will need to take cyst busters, so you may as well take them in combo.
Is tindimax the same as tinidazole?? Many drs will choose flagyl first as it is very cheap and works.
Tinidazole is often more expensive but causes fewer side effects.
Plaquenil works to some extent, but I dont' think it carries quite the punch that tini and flagyl do.
Hope this helps!!!

I was just prescribed this combo by my newest LLMD, but I want to talk to my two other LLMDs who have been treating me longer, because Flagyl is so hard on the liver (I had liver damage from Ketek) and it can cause neuropathy which is one of my worst symptoms.
It was described to me as being able to touch upon Babs, Bart and Ehrlichia (which I have) as well as being a cyst-buster, which I've never been on. Yet I hear so many patients being put on Tindamax these days, so I'm confused, too!

Jill, Lymetoo, thx for your responses. So sorry about your dilema Jill, I too have terrible neuropathy and will shortly start the combo.
Sorry to hear about your liver damage, perhaps your LLMD might pulse the Flagyl? My doc says there's no difference bet. Flagyl and Tindimax (tinizadole)..!!!!
Good luck Jill and I'll post again when I have some meds under my belt!!

My LLMD says Tindamax is much "kinder" that Flagyl. I have not had any problems on Tindy. I have used it in conjuntion with Biaxin and Ceftin.

I suffer mainly from neuropathy and my doctor recommended flagyl, which I've hated in the past. I had no idea there was an alternative. But he says that's for the future, not yet.

Bitten, may I ask what your dosage of Tindamax was? Thx.
Posted by 1Bitten2XShy (Member # 12280) on :
1000 mg daily but there was a time I was 1500 MG daily in the beginning for about 6 months.

Flagyl is so cheap it might as well be free.(watchout though cause my right hand and right foot are still cold and a little numb from it!!)
Tindamax is very expensive.
Plaquenil has mixed reports as a cyst buster but I am going to try it as it is unrelated to Flagyl, unlike Tinidazole.

Migs - how did you do on the biaxin/flagyl combo overall? Why did it cause your hand/foot to be cold and numb? Yikes!! Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

Tindamax is very expensive.
That is what I thought. Tinidazole has fewer side effects though.

I haven't tried Biaxin yet.
I have been on Doxy/Amoxicillin/Flagyl 1500mg/day, every day for about 8 months.
I went off the Flagyl a couple of times due to my right foot looking slightly blue and gettin cold a lot. When I stopped the Flagyl, my foot would warm up again within days. The last time my index finger stated getting cold for a few days and suddenly my right foot went numb one day. It is improving (off about 3 weeks now) but my right finger is still freezing cold as I type this and my foot still has decreased sensation.
Point of interest though, after 7 months making very slow gains I upped my Amoxicillin from 3 grams a day to 4.5 gms a day plus Probenecid 1500mg a day and WHAM. Magic. Headache really strong and strange feeling for about 8 or 9 days and then the fog just lifted.
....All these months, I just wasn't taking enough Amoxicillin. I have been symptom free for almost a month now and I am thinking the nightmare could be over soon. Prior to that Amoxicillin shock, I became a sleepy and forgetfull mess with sore wrists every 20 days like clockwork. Strange.

Congrats migs on your progress despite having gone thru ^*@! Incredible how when you dosed up on the amoxicillin you began to improve...truly incredible and inspiring.
Thx for sharing and best wishes for continued good health!

Thanks for the good wishes but I spoke a bit too soon I think.
I was symptom free for over a month for the first time ever but a herx finally got me.
I have been off the Flagyl now for over 3 weeks and I am wondering if that had anything to do with my lack of herx for so long and now this dull and long one unlike normal.
