I was not taking my magnesium for a while and decided I better get back on it. I started taking magnesium again in addition to B complex to see if it would help my tachycardia. A day after this, I got a horrible upset GI tract that felt like battery acid, nausea, and no appetite at all. I stopped the magnesium and vitamins because my GI tract was so upset.
I started the magnesium again this morning and ever since I have been nauseous. After I eat it gets worse. My vision is blurry and I just do not feel well. I have not been on any meds for about 15 days now so it cannot be the meds.
My heart seems to have calmed down but what is causing this nausea? Can magnesium cause you to herx or be nauseous?
I have never really had much nausea before other than when I tired taking Bactrim a few weeks ago.
Thanks!

Never known anything to occur from magnesium except loos(er) stools/diarrhea if too much taken. What brand/ type? Maybe it's not "good".
I'd try a fresh bottle... I use the stuff recommended in Dr B's Guidelines, Mag-Tab SR, as it's not $$$ & avail at any 'Wal'lyWorld. If not in-stock it can arrive in 1 day. (By Niche pharma.)

For me it is not a herx but an intolerance. Magnesium really upsets my stomach. To the point that I don't take the pills, but I give myself injections.
Supposedly, Magnesium Glycinate is the easiest on your stomach. And Magnesium Oxide is the hardest. But I tried them all and they all caused nausea.
If you are taking it on an empty stomach try taking it with food.
Best, Karen

There is no such a thing as herxing after magnesium.

B-vitamins are notorious for creating nausea if you don't have enough food in your stomach.
Magnesium, too, works best for some people with a meal.

Magnesium has caused a Herx like reaction in my wife. I am guessing she was severely depleted at that time. I am still not sure what was happening for sure.
I figured that either the Mg was bringing the Lyme out of cyst form or it was ramping up her immune system and that caused a herx.
Either way, she would experience symptoms within 20 minutes of taking Mg. This did go away after a few months of supplementation.
