Does anyone else have this? I need to swallow and it is as if I have forgotten how or I just can't. Then I almost get into a state of panic all because I can't swallow.
This doesn't happen when I am eating or drinking however. In fact I will often have to take a drink of water to "remember" how to swallow.
Does this make sense to anyone? Posted by sutherngrl (Member # 16270) on :
Yes! It feels like the muscles in the throat get stuck or that you loose control over them.

Yes,
This seems common to Lyme patients. It's one of the symptoms I hate the most. Had it for almost 3 years straight once, lost a lot of weight and looked like death.
It's very scary,
take care, Ocean

Yes, I too know that symptom. I don't have it often, but my throat always feels tight and my throat muscles (?) feel swollen.

Yes, I've got it. You know, I noticed it got a lot worse during my tilt table test, so I'm wondering if postural changes (i.e. being forced to be upright like that test) make a difference. Right after the test I couldn't swallow and I was panicking.

Sometimes I feel like I have excess saliva too, if that makes any sense.

This symptom has prompted me to always cut my food into very small pieces.......A lesson learned from almost choking to death at a restaurant one night.

Yes, that happens to me frequently. A drink of water is the only way I can swallow.
LeeLee, I also experience excess saliva. Don't know why but it is annoying.
