I tested positive for the inability to clear molds and borrelia. Doctor called me today and said two pathways are blocked.

He wants me to take Questran and build up to 3-4 times per day if possible.

I know some of you have had this same diagnosis. My question is has the addition of Questran or Cholestryamine to your protocol given you noticable improvement?

Are other detoxifiers just as effective? Is this med safe? I know that it has been around for a long time.

And last of all, what did you do to ensure that you continued to have regular bowel movements?

Thank you,
Feelfit

I took it twice per day. I had an increase of symptoms as described on biotoxin.info

Take vitamin C and mag to ensure bowel movements. It's not good if you don't move the toxins out. Also, take two hours away from meds.

It helped the first 10 days, then nothing. It was horrendous on my stomach. I think maybe it caused trouble with my gallbladder. I'm not sure.

I took sorbitol to help with BM's but it didn't work very well .. and may have contributed to the problem.

I think the drug is pretty safe.

Does anyone know if we also have to take probiotics 2 hours away from cholestyramine?

Does it bind those too?

Feelfit, Dr. C told me this week she wants me on this!! How ironio. I don't even know what it is, but I'm worried because I have a bad gallbladder and I saw this comment.

I REALLY REALLY wish I knew if I had impaired de-tox abilities.

An alternative is activated carbon (charcoal).
Certain brands are better at binding than others but still not as good as Questran or CSM (but maybe less side effects).

I think so!!! That's what makes it so hard to fit it in the schedule!

Seek,

Have Dr. C test you. Labs are done by both Quest and LabCorp.

Thanks everyone for your input. Looking for some positive results???

Anyone?

Dr. C just doesn't understand that stuff. No doctor I've met does. I tried to ask, but it's hard when the docs are clueless about your request. I feel stupid asking.

please clarify for others that THIS Dr C is NOT the Dr C in MO.

This is Dr. C in MI a PCP that is Lyme friendly. Not the Dr. C in MO. that Seek is going to see this Monday.

I started cholestyramin before I started abx per my LLMD and I'm glad that I did. Everytime I've tried to stop or missed it for a few days I've gotten sicker so I feel it is helpful for me.

I don't have a problem with constipation and never have had with this medication. I take Vit C and Magnesium and they are very helpful at keeping things moving.

Charcoal is much less effective than cholestyramine.

You may need actos in order to tolerate cholestyramine. According to Mold Warriors, it is a gene therapy of sorts. It is a prescription med that is commonly used for diabetics. It downregulates cytokins and I think some other hormones that can get stirred up in lyme patients by cholestyramine, making them feel sicker.

I'm on week 1 of CSM twice a day. Feel extra crappy.
Joints hurt, stiffer. Got to get rid of the toxins that cause the inflammation reponse. I've heard 7 weeks is a good amount see results.

Oh, I was thinking that CSM was something that was supposed to be an "instant relief" sort of thing. (I have only done it once, but I feel so bad all the time I don't know if I would be able to tell a difference)

So instead, is it that you use it for 7 weeks.....and then the cumulative effects of that causes you to then feel better? Hmmm.

Be sure to get the type that does not have any aspartame in it.

I felt better immediately after starting CSM 3 times a day.

My husband got a lot sicker from it, but he is pushing through.

Janice,

My doctor said that you CAN herx from this, so that is what your husband is probably doing.

I choose to have your results [Wink]

How much CSM do you all recommend as a starting dose?

Feelfit,

In your first post, you said, "Dr. called me today and said two pathways are blocked."

Can you elaborate on this? What lab ran this test? Was it Quest or Labcorp as you mentioned in another post?

Thanks!

Posted by feelfit (Member # 12770) on :

Both Labs ran tests. They were the tests on Ritchie Shoemakers lab sheets (Quest and LabCorp).

I am not able to elaborate except to say that he indicated that pathways were blocked for proper elimination of both molds and Borriela. He also indicate that this would include: erlichia, babesia, bartonella.

I must admit that it is all rather complex and I really don't understand it as well as I would like to/

Seekhelp I was told to start at 1-2 tablespoons/day and work up to 4 tablespoons day.
