Lisa,
Welcome. I see this is your first post. Sorry you had to find LymeNet but I hope this site will serve you well.
The first thing that comes to mind is low thyroid. Thyroid (and other endocrine functions) can be greatly affected by lyme.
There were a couple of times when my hair loss was severe. It is much better now so, relax, it can improve.
Backing up now, have you been dx (diagnosed) with lyme or other TBD (tick-borne diseases or tick-borne infections)?
Are you getting treatment now? If so, with an ILADS-educated LLMD?
Let us know if you need more information.
-------
Oh, and if you are using your real name, I strongly suggest changing that. Many insurance companies do not cover very much lyme treatment.
And since anyone can google your name and find whatever you write here, anyone from prospective employers to (yes) even insurance companies can find out more than you might want them to know.
===========
This book is the best basic source to explain thyroid and lyme - or other things that can affect hair loss.
This book, by an ILADS member LLMD, holds great information about treatments options and support measures:
THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROTEIN & AMINO ACID DURING ACUTE & CHRONIC INFECTION . . .

Excerpt: " . . . In general, the amount of EXTRA protein that would appear to be needed is of the order of 20-25 per cent of the recommended intake, for most infections. . . ."

You may need to get your serum ferratin checked. I lost ALOT of hair bc my Iron got low, not sure if lyme related or not. I have been on IV iron infusions. You may want to consult a hematologist.
