My liver blood markers have been creeping up in the last 8 weeks. I went off of ABX as a trial to see if the remaining symptoms would go away. Well, after my visit with my LLMD, we decided that I would go on IV and see what happens I am at 80 percent
My markers are 59 for AST ( normal 0-41) and ALT is 131( normal is 0-63). So not too bad, but high enough where I cannot start IV treatment. Ultrasound are fine.
1)What is strange is the the markers elevated after I stopped ABX ? Does that seem normal.
2)What can be causing my liver markers to go up after I got off abx?
3)Does it take a couple months to get back to normal?
4) More importantly, what do I do to help bring it back to normal.
Based on my readings,
- Milk Thistle - Are all brands the same, I want somthing that works quickly - N-Acetyl Cysteine ALA - Frequent infrared sauna, take some work off the liver
What else can I do ? I am trying to get these levels down so my next appt, I can start the final leg of my lyme journey. (iv)
I really appreaciate some help from those that have had high Liver Markers

In my case it was being on constant high doses of ABX that elevated my liver enzymes.
It's hard to know how long it will take for them to come down but I had to take a break, too.
I have taken milk thistle all thru treatment every day, NAC but when they became elevated my llmd added Schisandra. You may want to look into it.
Also, good quality whey protein will help your body produce glutathione, too. I add a good quality green drink such as New Chapter Berry Greens, which also helps with detox.
This is one of the best quality brands of whey protein that I have found:
I think Babs can elevate liver enzymes. Sorry to hear your progress has stalled.

I had the same problem..I went off abx and my liver enzymes elevated..go figure. I took milk thistle and ALA (alpha lipoic acid) and they came down in 2 weeks. My LLMD and I can't figure out why on 2 years of abx, no problems, then 2 months off..and they went up.
My acupuncturist felt since my body wasn't on abx, it was detoxing a lot, and my liver was taking a hit.

Hi,
I had several elevated marks before starting treatment, one being liver plus indicators for
lupus. During the first few months of treatment they would go up and down, but always high. To
my shock and excitement on my 8 mo. check up all of my numbers came back perfect! The abx.
are definately doing their job. I have lyme and babs. I can't say I was super diligent on
getting the numbers down. I took liver support and did epson baths, try to eat good. Hang in
there, wish you the best.

I had elevated liver enzymes for a year after I was on rifampin for just a week, although i don't know for certain it was the rifampin, but i believe it was.
I wasn't on abx most of the time that they were bouncing around until they came back to normal.
i do TONS of milk thistle, plus dandelion (lots), ALA, NAC, and selenium, as well as Essential GSH, which is the liquid form of glutathione.
If you can get nebulized glutathione, that's the most effective by far, but also the most expensive. Capsule form has been shown not to be absorbed very effectively.
You can also do tinctures or infusions of burdock root and yellow dock.
