Wondering what caused my teeth to be black when on Doxy. It took several very thorough professional cleanings to get rid of it. Any thoughts?

Yep. My teeth were black on any abx. It didn't help that I wore braces. My dentist would allow extra time with the hygienist to get all the black off .... they can do it all in one cleaning if they allow enough time.
It's caused by the change in bacteria in your mouth.

This happened to my husband on doxy. LLMD said it wasn't related. But it sounds like it is.

Hi
Yes mine turn gray. I noticed yesterday. I don't why, maybe it is a way of expeeling toxin, that's just a guess,I am not a Doc by any means. jt345(appleseed)

Doxy definately caused black rings on teeth right along gum lines. Dentist easily removed this though.

I am on doxy and have black on my front bottom teeth. The front and back. It seems to be around the edges of the teeth.
I haven't been in for a cleaning yet cause I am not due until May. So I bought a really good Oral B spin tooth brush and it seems to be helping some.
I really hope the dentist can get the rest off!!
Oh and my doctor wouldn't admit it was from doxy either. But it didn't happen until after I took it. Funny!!

Same experience here. Mine was brown and closer to the gumline, also in the ridges of some teeth. Also on Doxy, maybe on azithromycin later.
It all went away with a cleaning or two.
After getting reinfected with more bugs recently, I've been on nonstop antibiotics for 9 months, and I haven't seen the brown teeth stain recur.
They were very impressed with how great my gums stayed between cleanings, though- that's because antibiotics are great for killing gum disease bacteria also. So it's a trade-off.

Yeah, mine are turning more yellow/brown. I'm glad to hear it clears up. When I get off of abx I'll have my teeth cleaned.
However, my dentist now won't clean my teeth until I have an panaorax x-ray. It's crazy as I never had to have xrays before I had my teeth cleaned. I had an xray 3 years ago for a wisdom tooth removal. Are your dentists xray happy, or is it just Illinois where doctors and dentists pay dearly for malpractice insurance?
Just wondering. CherylSue

I have had the black teeth problem for months.
It doesn't seem to be related to a specific ABX, just the quantities. Dentists are not used to seeing patients using the levels of ABX we are on though I think the LLMD's should have heard of "black hairy tongue" caused by anitbiotic "abuse".
I have found that brushing with baking soda helps keep my tongue from turning black which transfers to the teeth. I will also have a mouthful of good plain yogurt and rinse it around AFTER brushing.
All of the probiotics work in the GI tract but miss the mouth. It has helped. I don't want to do the heavy cleaning too much as I have very little enamel on my teeth.

Mine get stained around the edges on the Penicillins. Amoxy and Rocephin. The color is black.
I have my teeth cleaned every 6 months and they are able to remove it.
