I am to start probenicid in addition to amoxy, biaxin, malarone, plaq and art.
Anyone else? What were your experiences? This feels like alot. Thanks Kris

Probenecid just keeps the amoxy circulating in your body longer. You should always take it if you are taking amoxy for lyme. Otherwise, the amoxy is taken out of your body too quickly by the liver (I believe it is the liver).
It's not an antibiotic.
The amoxy is for lyme--and the biaxin. You should take 2 different antibiotics simultaneously to treat lyme, per Dr. Burrascano.
The malarone, plaq and art are to treat babesiosis. This illness requires different meds from lyme. It requires antiprotozoals.
You ARE on a lot of meds. But, that's how we treat lyme and its coinfections.
See the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines. It looks like your doc is following them. Good for you.
"Because of its short half-life and need for high levels, amoxicillin is usually administered along with probenecid." (p.14)

Thanks TF, I know about the different abx/antiprotozoals. The probenecid is new to me, that's all. I've known alot of people on amoxy who have not taken probenicid. Anyone else? Thanks Kris

I started on amoxy, then my LLMD addd the Prob. a couple weeks in. I didn't notice much but was told it keeps the kidneys from filtering out the amoxy (& biaxin, in your case) as quickly.
Some peope ARE alleric to Probenecid, so take the 1st dose (usually 1 caplet) & see how you do. See the info that comes with it re: what constitutes an allergic reaction. (I believe it's the usual hives & possible breathing constrictions.)
I was able to go from dosing the amoxy 3 times a day to 2...with breakfast & dinner. This also results in a longer peak level & higher "trough level" (abx blood level just before the next dose)

Hi Joysie. I took it in conjunction with high-dose Amoxicillin. As above, it kept the bloodstream level higher of the antibiotic. It's actually a drug for gout, in and of itself. It was easily tolerated; I never noticed any side effects at all.

In case anyone else goes searching, I added my probenicid Monday pm. Today I woke up covered in a red rash. Off amxy and probenicid, MD thinks it's a reaction to either the probenicid or the increased availability of abx. Just wanted to put it out there. Thanks to those of you who sent me responses. Kris

You woke up THURSDAY morn "covered in a rash"? And you started the Probenecid Monday EVE? Hmmm... odd. Could be a herx!
1 thing you 2 could try is lowering the amoxy some but keeping the Probenecid.
Any Other meds added... say, around Wednsday?

Nothing new at all except the probenicid. I have been on everything else (in my original post) since February .I was a little itchy Wednesday but can't say I thought much of it. Thanks for the support. My LLMD says both the proben and amoxy go for now, so... Kris

Well, maybe the core of your protocol- the clarithromycin & hydroxychloroquine- is best for now.
Remember to have your eyes checked every 2 or 3 mo.s (Optometrist is fine) while you're on the latter (esp. at 400mg/day or more) Most don't have any issue with it, but "better safe than sorry". (I read that any vision damage Can be permanent)
